@dcc @theorytoe @phnt @apropos @koen_hufkens @dagda For matters of archival a unified platform means that archival is mpre streamlined, tho archival isn't always important.
The account creation isn't so bad with gitlab as it has the feature where you can use you account and credentials from gitlab.com to create an account on any other gitlab instance, which is a far cry from perfect but at the time the solution was implemented it was better than nothing i guess.
On the Gitea side tho the work to add gitea federation is an ongoing one, as they want everything to be fully federated, comments, issues, forking and pull requests so you only ever need to register on one gitea instance and then be able to collaborate with any project on the network.
@jwildeboer @eu_os You mean Gitlab.com? Because I see no problem with a self-hosted gitlab.
I ended up not writing about it, but the reason git weird me out is that normally /all/ I would do is this:
cd ~/gits/
git clone --bare git@gitlab.com:screwlisp/arrokoth.git
cd ~/working/
got checkout ~/gits/arrokoth
which helpfully prints the words, "Now shut up and hack!", and in got useage you don't really think about anything git tries to be able to do, since you don't generally write in a way that would break others' work. I think, anyway.
