Today I taught Tek Jr that if INS starts approaching them and their friends, they’re to yell “la migra!” and run. When the thugs follow, their friends can run the other way. Doesn’t matter if Tek Jr gets caught; ain’t jack INS can do to them.

@tek - given the record of people arrested sometimes getting delayed in release or even "lost" for months in the system, as well as noting the abuses done by CPS in some places, while I sympathize with the spirit of this post, I don't really think it is necessarily good advice for parents to impart to their kids. Better to tell them to observe and report immediately what they saw, rather than endanger themselves - adults are the ones that can better choose whether to place themselves in between.

@TotalSonic My ancestors volunteered to travel to far continents to fight tyrants. I’ll be damned if I’m not going to protect my own neighbors from the same.
I would rather die protecting the people around me than cowardly allowing them to suffer.

@tek - that is an excellent attitude and more power to you. What I am trying to say is that we can make the decisions to oppose evils ourselves, and as adults more likely have a better level of experience to judge how best to effect that in a particular situation - but we still shouldn't encourage our kiddos to endanger themselves, given they might not be able to reliably navigate the situation in a safe way.

@TotalSonic Sure, and that’s why we discuss ideas in advance that can do the most amount of good for the people around us, with the least personal risk given our specific circumstances.

@TotalSonic I didn’t advise anyone else to do that. I teach my kids to find ways to help and protect the people around them. Everyone should do that, whatever it may look like for their own situations.

@tek I think the problem is, it doesn't matter. Someone in congress wants anyone standing between ICE and an immigrant arrested (especially MAYORS). They are playing for keeps.

@jenzi You know, sometimes you have to do what’s right, even if it’s not easy. This is my country, dammit, and when my grandkids ask what I did when the thugs came for our neighbors, I want to have an answer I can be proud of.
We can’t all roll over and allow evil to happen when we could’ve resisted. That’s how historically bad things happen.

@sal INS aren’t cops in the usual sense. The physical risk to my family from immigration thugs is far less than the risk to someone who gets deported.

Yeah, but as the scouts would say 'be prepared' I don't think it is just this, being prepared for something is always a good thing, could be a natural disaster that displaces you for example and you need to grab an emergency kit with essentials, right up to the government trying to arrest you with the view to deportation,
As I said, take care, We are hoping all this taking over greenland and panama is just bluster, or if Trump orders that, the military just say NO.

@tek I really hope your kid(s) fully understand the risks involved; "INS" (I'm assuming you mean ICE/CBP) can do plenty.
Whiteness and US citizenship only protect you if the people with guns deign to recognize them.

@eladnarra How are they going to deport someone who was born in the US to American parents who were born in the Midwest to American grandparents born in the Midwest? I don’t think Germany wants us back some 400 years after we left.
