@mekkaokereke Yay!
Ours is getting plenty of exercise making doughs for baguette and pizza. It’s a great thing to have.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Haven't chosen a name yet. But it's olive green. I might get the wooden bowl, so that it looks like this.
I wasn't aware that the decal game was so advanced! I might design my own decals, so that it has our names on it.
@mekkaokereke
Congratulations!
And now the most important questions: What color is it? And what is its name?
(Deep dark indigo blue. "Lady Miss Marlene Mixalot")
@mekkaokereke If you haven't already, get the pasta maker attachment. It's a delight.
@mekkaokereke They make stand mixer lifts which help keep them in a bay under the counter but then that takes up under counter space instead. They are both worth it though!
@nygren 🤯
@mekkaokereke Game changer! My daughter’s boyfriend got her one for her birthday. I got her the pasta maker attachment set. She loves baking cakes and we love that she does too 😋

These are great.
Green!
@mekkaokereke Color??
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io Here's the important question though: which color did they get you? Does it match the rest of the kitchen, or stand out in an exciting way?
@mekkaokereke It's like a docking bay for the KitchenAid... You don't use it on the stand shelf though.
@mekkaokereke Wife got me a food processor. Perfect timing for our 6 month old son to try purées of various kinds!
@mekkaokereke Daaang, that's SHARP! There are many things in this world that neutral colors are ok, for. Stand Mixers in home kitchens, ain't one of 'em. The wooden bowl is SWEET!
@mhoye @mekkaokereke
I can vouch for a multi-day cold ferment, it makes an incredible dough. But, one dad to another, you can get 75% of the payoff in about an hour if you have a bottle of Grolsch handy: https://recipes.isaaclyman.com/recipes/1-hour-beer-pizza
@mhoye @mekkaokereke this one is good too https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/neapolitan-style-pizza-crust-recipe
Pizza dough!
(He says, brimming with misplaced confidence...)
@mekkaokereke Yay! What do you plan to make first?
Mine came with the standard. This is an accessory. It looks so nice! Practicality aside...
@mekkaokereke @ohmu WOODEN KITCHENAID BOWL???!!
@mekkaokereke Shiny!
Alton Brown’s Good Eats set had one painted by an auto body shop.
There is a dude called Mr Mixer who acts like an iFixit for kitchen aid mixers, and sells some fun toys for them.
@isaaclyman @mhoye @mekkaokereke
Kenji Lopez Alt agrees with you

I built an additional counter for mine!
@mekkaokereke @ohmu I know I don’t need a thing I just learned existed mere minutes ago, but also I do need it.
@mekkaokereke One word: Brioche.
@mekkaokereke @ohmu
I did not know these things could look beautiful.
@mekkaokereke The first thing I made with mine when my wife got me one was homemade marshmallows which is really difficult without a stand mixer but dangerously easy with one. Here’s the recipe I use: https://www.theflavorbender.com/how-to-make-marshmallows-tips-and-tricks-for-homemade-marshmallows/#recipe (though I replace the agave/corn syrup they list with an invert sugar syrup which I find provides much tastier results)
@mekkaokereke This is beautiful!
Sounds kooky, but if you eat lot of shredded chicken it’s a game changer, I promise ☺️
@mekkaokereke Way back in 2016 my wife found a Black Friday deal on a Kitchen Aid that let us get it for $60. We lived in a 400sqft house with only one counter top. It was still worth using up the little counter space we had with that machine.
@mekkaokereke If you’re not familiar, look up a recipe for Pavlova. Phenomenal dessert recipe that the whisk makes simple.
And it’s late on Christmas night, so I’ll have to add that wooden bowl to next year’s list. Gorgeous!
@mekkaokereke That bit about whipping the egg whites separately for pancakes?
Yes. Tomorrow. With this.
@mekkaokereke These things are a game changer. We're talking crepe batter fully mixed in 15 minutes or less with no manual labour. It's the only tool I need to make lemon bars that would blow your mind. There are attachments that make grinding sausage or rolling pasta a snap. We made almost 200 tamales with one this week and it didn't miss a beat. It's a callback to quality American industrial engineering (even though they probably haven't been made stateside in decades).
@saraislet @klausfiend @mekkaokereke For crêpe batter, I generally just chuck the ingredients into the machine a little under an hour before we start baking them.
Once the batter is done, it can just sit there till we’re ready. I’ll give it another quick twirl before taking out the bowl.
This is a very lazy approach, and it works great.
@klausfiend @mekkaokereke though crepe batter should sit ten minutes in the refrigerator to get the bubbles out
@mekkaokereke @ohmu The wood bowl is gorgeous, but if you’re using the mixer to its full potential you’ll want to be able to just throw everything in the dishwasher when you’re done.
@mekkaokereke @donaldball @ohmu if you get into using it, my favorite is to have multiple bowls. I just have the basic stainless bowls, but extras help if making several things. They’re also just great prep bowls with the handle.
Oh and as long as I’m giving unsolicited ideas, cooking with a scale is a major upgrade. (I’d do a scale before extra bowls.)
Yeah, I've heard that scales do wonders for consistency. "2 cups of flour" can be off by 10% or 15% in either direction, depending on how compressed or fluffy the flour is, and how flat or hill-like the surface of the flour is. But 240g of flour is 240g of flour.
@mekkaokereke the nice thing about kitchen aid mixers is that they’re built like tanks.
Ours started making noise and failing after about 15 years, a gear in the head is worn out. I’ve got new gears and food safe grease on order and hope that it’ll be good for another 15.
