ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 04:58:44 JST ninavizz @aral I guess that's where I disagree. Non-nrrds and folks leaving proprietary/for-profit media need the "gateway-friendly" mastodon.social instance and experience, imho, to learn about the fediverse and to feel emboldened enough to take the next step(s). To really force the failure of for-profit tech, a much more massive migration has to happen; and (almost) anything possible, I want to support.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 03:43:58 JST ninavizz @aral Do we really want the growth limited of the primary federated platform functioning as the world's Shitter replacement? I honestly don't see Mastodon going for "unicorn" (blick) growth, but instead to meet community demand. The world does want usable, accessible, and easy to access social platforms; and this is truly the only one with a reasonable entry curve. Discord is ok, too; but Matrix, too hard. Most others, also too obscure or hard.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 01:09:35 JST ninavizz @aral We briefly chatted about this, though. There really isn't, today—and considering Eugen supports himself, another adult, and two pets, it's not right to expect him and his family to personally take the hit for today's scant funding for public interest tech. Mastodon would at least need a full-time development director, and even then there's barely enough. Barely. TorProject and many others subsist on USAID & the US Dept of Defense. Our community needs better.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 29-Apr-2024 16:38:39 JST ninavizz @aral How else do you believe the folks behind Mastodon could get paid livable wages? As it stands today, they each make very little; and can't even afford non-profit rates for open positions. Biz can at least attract SV donors, which is where so much capital is otherwise being burned by enshittified shit.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 28-Apr-2024 05:24:24 JST ninavizz @Gargron I'm sorry, friend. Many more of us love what you've done with Mastodon, and as a fellow adult also feeding 2 people and 2 cats, it's impossible to NOT understand why the US NGO status is important necessary.
Kids, adults living in isoluation & grifters gonna whine. You just stand tall, and keep on keepin' on with your shine.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 11-Apr-2024 14:38:34 JST ninavizz @Gargron Have you tried optical printing and then scanning from that? No idea what film scanning tech is like, nowadaze... but 30yrs ago scanning from a color negative was just not possible w/o distorting the intent of the light exposure of the film. That said, the color and tones looks lovely on my dinky phone screen.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Feb-2024 21:02:06 JST ninavizz Today Adobe announced its annual MAX conference would take place in Florida. A US state the NAACP has declared unsafe for Black travelers. 500 employees signed an internal letter, condemning the decision. Some PR lady responded, with a blurb saying they're "(giving money to) local LGBTQIA groups" in recognition of Florida's "challenges." One of the most explicity anti-Black actions I've seen an unrepentant tech industry do, in recent years.

I doubt, unfortunately, that any swag companies do. Dang SQL and their claim on the cutie big-eared elephant!

I'd love an elephant squishy stress-reliever toy, branded Mastodon. That said: I hope you have good/squishy anti-fatigue floor mats to stand upon, and are staying hydrated. TY for all you do!

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2024 19:15:19 JST ninavizz @aral I want to agree with this, but Eugene Stoner, Mikhail Kalashnikov, and Robert Oppenheimer are possibly the most consequential designers of our time. They solved "problems" clients brought to them. They did not decorate. Their strategies, principles, and goals, all widely different and razor sharp in needs-meeting. We need to recognize that, in order to recognize deceptive, nefarious, or murderous solutioning sought by employers. Then, we must choose to comply or resist.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Dec-2023 05:28:40 JST ninavizz @etherdiver There's a huge difference between desiring wealth to gain food/housing security—with some basic "perks" considered luxuries in American culture, but essential quality-of-life stuff in Europe (ability to travel, etc)—and desiring enormous wealth to accrue power and "compete" with other humans for resources.
I do not see the prior as "playing the game" when done with intent and while participating in activities to guarantee basic rights to everyone.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 15-Dec-2023 16:59:44 JST ninavizz @Gargron We appreciate you, Eugen. Really. Thank you, in spite of all our critiques of Mastodon, for all you've done to step it up to fill the void the nazi bar left when its bird flew the coop. Really. You're a good one—and probably VERY overdue for a vacation?
Please go be a proper European, and take a few weeks to yourself. Away from tootsville. We're not going anywhere. xoxo!

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 10-Dec-2023 07:57:19 JST ninavizz @aral The US delegate to the Security Council voted against a ceasefire, last week. Furious. So much of this letter seems so obvious, to millions on the outside—that the enablers seem more keen to ignore, than to honor.

ninavizz (ninavizz@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2023 16:39:37 JST ninavizz @aral OMG lookit you—WOW, you got IN FRONT OF the dang Parliament! Congrats!! Honestly, tech used to be all about the common good. More of it, than not. My dad was a tech exec in the 1980s, and it was a very different world, then. He was so excited when I left for-profit, and then was almost more bummed-out than I was, when I had to return to it. All of us fighting to make it better, tho, make his generation proud. VERY proud, fwiw. Please know that! <3 @simulo @fosdem
