  @Gargron I don't think it's hiding money that sparks attention. Most would have no problem with you having a higher salary, specially given the state of the tech world. What raises an eyebrow is the venture capital and AI/Blockchain members of the board

  @Gargron I'm sorry, friend. Many more of us love what you've done with Mastodon, and as a fellow adult also feeding 2 people and 2 cats, it's impossible to NOT understand why the US NGO status is important necessary.

  @aenea Angel investing is not the same thing as venture capital. Venture capital firms are a specific thing, and Biz is not part of that thing. Myself and other board members also disagree with Amir about AI. But he cares about Mastodon and he brings a lot of irreplaceable experience in law.

  @Gargron Wikipedia mentions Stone is an angel investor. Amir's link in the mastodon Blogpost mentions AI in the first paragraph. This of course raises questions, given the state of AI bubble + venture capital. The objective of the board might be different, the talks you have had and whatnot. But at first glance this is what people will see

  @Gargron If they don’t like it they don’t have to support it. Being a charity in the US encourages more Americans to donate.
  Would be nice if there was an internationally-accepted “for the good of everyone” organization without having to file paperwork in 100+ countries.
