@BowsacNoodle @waifu yeah I know. 98% of climate change activism is bureaucrats puppeteering 95 IQ midwits into supporting policy that drains more money out of the middle and lower class. If they actually gave a shit they would go all in on finding more safe ways to do nuclear. Even ultra libshits like the xkcd guy agrees with that (though I'm sure later he had to reverse course over threat of cancelation or something).
Anyway broken clocks and all that. If some rogue scholars want to actually "solve it" in an economical way I'm all for it.
For the record I know whatever they say is blowing it out of proportion by two orders of magnitude, but I doubt that pumping industrial amounts of poo gas into the atmosphere is a good thing. I'm not an environmental sadist. -

@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @BowsacNoodle@poa.st the thing with cow burps is that they don't add any kind of CO2 to the atmosphere, it was already there in the plants when they were there, the real problem is when you burn coal or gas or whatevs, the CO2 coming from dinosaurs was buried down not interacting with us.

Diffuse gases aren't an issue, but concentrates could be. Natural plant matter decays slower vs animal digestion (dilution via atmosphere). Ruminators can't fully break down methane so they release it. Methane is, in the lab, a bigger concern by orders of magnitude than CO2. If they can make cows not fart methane, it will mean less smelly manure if nothing else, and potentially create a better fertilizer in the process. If seaweed powder is all it takes, that's great. -

You get more net O2 production and CO2 capture during rapid growth phase in primitive plants (look into algae tank pruning), so that might be enough to quiet hippies. The ingredient that actually does the heavy lifting is Bromoform, CHBr3, so maybe they'll just GMO some grass that naturally makes the stuff and simultaneously create a new problem we won't notice for 40 years. -

@deprecated_ii @waifu @BowsacNoodle like I say, I don't argue about the science part because there's too many variables and I know nothing about it. I base my opinion off the following:
1) it has every single hallmark of a scam. You need to act NOW or ALL of life as you know it WILL END. Oh and by the way it's really really really expensive and I get all the money.
2) not a single thing they propose ever seriously addresses climate. Eg "ban nuclear and import infinityniggers to stop climate change". If they were genuinely fearful that the situation was urgent they wouldn't be dicking around so much.
I don't need any more than that. These things usually work off of some small kernel of truth that is blown 10, 100, x1000 out of proportion. Common sense tells me that 24/7 industrial waste being pumped into the atmosphere is not going to have *no effect*. Just go to major cities and look at the skyline. -

of course we shouldn't just dump actually harmful waste into the environment in volume. but the key is "actually harmful waste" and that category is a lot smaller than people have been led to believe by the death cult. there's also a discussion to be had about accepting producing waste in the short term so we can get to the point that we don't need to produce it anymore, but that's a different kettle of fish
most of what you see being released into the air these days in western countries is just water vapor. we've been offshoring our pollution for decades. as a result, it's worse than it would have been and we can't stop it anymore because it's not under our control
