SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Friday, 26-Jul-2024 04:34:13 JST SuperDicq @iska@catposter.club Homelab isn't that expensive to acquire but it's more like "Why is my power bill suddenly 300 euro a month?"
And yeah camera guys are pretty bad sometimes. Also very easy to upset by saying "a better camera won't let you make better pictures" -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Friday, 26-Jul-2024 04:36:50 JST SuperDicq @AngryWraith@poa.st definitely the shittiest here. All the other hobbies you at least do something with and don't just collect for the sake of collecting. Shoe guys don't even wear their shoes. It's just funko pops with a less neckbeardy audience

I'm definitely not one of those types of Lego fan. -

I wanted to get a second one (with 97A's instead) or upgrade to Epyc Rome. But I realized that I'm wasting too much money...

"better" equipment costs about the same on the used market, but it is loud as fuck and if you really suck at picking stuff out can easily run up your power bill. i have two pieces of rackmount gear like this and they do not run 24/7 -

moooost tech isn't very recyclable but it is incredibly reusable and repurposeable.

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Saturday, 27-Jul-2024 03:40:23 JST SuperDicq @varyag@udongein.xyz I like watches but only a specific kind, Casio F91Ws. So that's very cheap.
Sim racing is a big one that I don't understand. If you're gonna spend 6k on a simrig why not just buy a real car instead and go to your local track?
Plastic models has a big overlap with RC, because RC building is literally just plastic model building but you add expensive electronics and mechanical bits to your model.
I was a little into fishing when I was younger but I never thought that this cost a lot of money. Not that I bought like top end gear or anything. -

You don't need to.
You can just install speed-dreams-2 or vdrift on your computer and use the keyboard, or pickup cheap a cheap sim-wheel and pedals second hand.
That is much cheaper than purchasing a 6k car and having to pay track fees and the maintenance costs caused by driving such kind of mid-range vehicle very fast - plus you can't damage your computer now matter how badly you drive in the simulator unlike in a real car.
Flightgear and the keyboard or cheap second hand controls is much cheaper than a real plane too. -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Saturday, 27-Jul-2024 04:11:13 JST SuperDicq @Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com but yeah a second hand wheel and pedals are fine. I have a Logitech G27. More expensive stuff is definitely better but I'd rather spend money on something else.
You can't play racing simulators with a keyboard however. You need analog controls for all the pedals and the wheel (in a real car it would also be very problematic if the throttle or brake only had a on or off position, same with steering wheel left/right) -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Saturday, 27-Jul-2024 04:12:34 JST SuperDicq @octozaky@mk.absturztau.be I actually do own a Lego RC car as well. In my experience it kinda sucks because every time you hit something or go over a bump parts will fall off. Rather have a real purpose build RC car.
