But I guess if you let something return to nature, you can't charge God property tax.

  The golf courses should mostly go away with the boomers. I've seen two go belly up and bulldozed for condos in the last 20 years. We'll need the water more than the sport.

  At best, permaculture style can decrease the water requirements of growing food in the desert. So either you reduce the amount of water used to grow the same amount of food (hello Jevons Paradox) or you can grow more food for a given amount of water.
