     @BowsacNoodle Did you hear BroNat says he’s running for President, 2028 ? I don’t know if this holds for Greek Catholics, but I’m pretty sure monastics (even novices) aren’t allowed to pursue public office.

     @KingOfWhiteAmerica I don't think I've ever looked into it, but I think there was some type of prohibition. I thought brother Nathaniel wasn't ordained and was just a based converted former jew.

     @KingOfWhiteAmerica @BowsacNoodle Imho bans on running for public office are issued by the church to insulate itself from danger by a hostile government, and can be rescinded at will by the patriarch. Even if there is a "ban", minor clergy would just need a letter of permission, only major clergy (deacon and up) and monastics would be seriously restricted.
     
     He is a novice, which I believe is monastic side, acolyte is clergy equivalent. Novices have no standing, and if they exibit a lack of humility it is a negative sign, so Im surprised hes not kicked out yet due to the videos. I dont think running for office shows hes ready for a monastery either. All that would happen is his abbot would ask him to stop, and if he doesnt, he would lose novice standing. He can resume novice standing once he corrects, it has no penalty for failure. Now.... if the Abbott wants him to run for public office.... then that Abbott might be in serious trouble, but Nathaniel would not be.
     
     Also this is ROCOR, they are an odd anomaly and not really how a church should be run. They are under Moscow Patriarchate, but functionally are permitted to run independently. It is only taken seriously because its existence is considered temporary and so far they havent stepped on any toes.

     @BowsacNoodle @epictittus I can’t vouch for ROCOR, but you might know; do they allow Novices to pursue public office ? I’d think it would have to result in some sort of “suspension”.

     @epictittus @BowsacNoodle That sounds reasonable enough; probably not a huge liability either way at the Novice level.
     I’m approaching it from an “eidos” level, wherein I‘d think any somewhat-reasonable Abbot with the least traditional Phronema would immediately recognize the intense and visible conflict of interest between Orthodox monastic habit and 21st Century American Presidential election.
     I know if somebody told me he’s an Orthodox monk running for President, I’d be strongly tempted to conclude he’s likely quite clueless about what one or the other actually entails.

     @KingOfWhiteAmerica @epictittus @BowsacNoodle I've only watched a smattering of Bro. Nathaniel here and there, but he very much seems like an Orthodox memester. I'm happy he found Orthodoxy, but he seems to use his position more for publicity than actual monastic humility.

     @BowsacNoodle @Appalachian_Crusader @epictittus Verily; I caught wind of BroNat in “conspiracy circles” some years before Orthodoxy had even occurred to me as a possibility. After my “official” Inquiry had started, the first I heard was loud denunciation of him from certain popular Facebook OrthoBros - trying to distance themselves from such “antisemitism”. I already knew vaguely who he was by that point.

     @KingOfWhiteAmerica @BowsacNoodle @epictittus Yeah, he has this weird nebulous space. I've noticed "far right" guys distance themselves from him because of his pre-conversion jewish background. If he's getting guys into Orthodoxy though I really can't fault the man.
     
     The more Orthodox people I watch online though the more I see that there are some small divisions, where they might recognize the other party as Orthodox, but they don't really associate with them. For instance, I didn't realize until recently that one of my favorite guys to listen to, Abbot Tryphon, is basically disavowed by Ancient Faith because of his "political views".

     @Appalachian_Crusader @KingOfWhiteAmerica @epictittus Sort of fits with the patriarchal model imo. There's not some expectations of complete uniformity or agreement, but we can respect differences without having to pretend a whole Church is lost simply for having a goofball in their midst. I wish this was a more common perspective across modern Christendom.
