     The positive side to this is that I don't think this is something Trump is absolutely sold on - he's not like the gay GOPe where once a politician says something they are going to die for it. He has no problem changing his mind.

     @C_J_S you can certainly get good results by doing things like this - and you can even make the requirements not intentionally above what 50% can get, but simply by selecting for those that really want it, you cut out a massive part of the problem.
     
     The problem we have is people that are coming to be invaders, to take everything they can steal. What we want - if anything - is people who would contribute.
     
     This is in theory what the boomer wants, but is unable to understand that "running across a border and a few miles of desert" isn't nearly as tough of a test as they think it is.

     @judgedread yes, I think that's the thing. The majority of elected republicans don't want to go all mass deportations because their business donors have been all pro-illegal immigration for 20-30 years. But there is also an understanding it is getting untenable.
