@judgedread yes, I think that's the thing. The majority of elected republicans don't want to go all mass deportations because their business donors have been all pro-illegal immigration for 20-30 years. But there is also an understanding it is getting untenable.

So perhaps they are hoping that Biden just does something so stupid that they get to avoid the question or it becomes totally safe to be pro-mass deportation.
