@dictatordave @PNS @haberdasher Still waiting for electric motor gas powered... Huge torque and power when you need it, instantly, and less weight from smaller battery and engine. Pipedream still but hopefully within a decade if we don't have faster collapse than expected. -

@PNS @BowsacNoodle @haberdasher i will agree all day long that electric motor assisted hyper cars are where that avenue is going, but it will never be a ubiquitous or reliable transport method, never
you could scale it down and make ev's more like the old k cars, that would make them more appealing, and their cost has to go down, like to the $5k or less range, not this 100k bullshit -

@dictatordave @PNS @haberdasher Nissan put out an electric drive gas generator car in Japan. It was okay, but Nissan has been bad in a lot of ways lately. Dodge Ramcharger will be probably 100k for an "ev that runs in gas" with a claimed 650+ mile range and insane power. TBH I just want moderate power in a smaller vehicle that doesn't cost more than my house payment. -

@dictatordave @PNS @haberdasher Nope, got anything cool to link? Toyota has some seriously good engineering. It's fun to say HAHA PRIUS GAYBOI but they figured out how to mesh electric and ICE very well. I know they were doing something big with their SUVs but I haven't looked in a few years. -

The BYD Auto Yangwang U8 (designed by the German who used to be the head designer at Alfa Romeo, Audi, & Lamborghini) is about the same price as a cyber truck but, despite being made by the Chinx, it's much more capable

@dictatordave @elftummy @HonkHonkBoom @PNS @haberdasher One of the reasons I like electric-drive gasoline generators is that they have way less battery storage by weight and volume, which means when they degrade its also cheaper to swap. You don't need to build the "skateboard" body style that so many electrics use either, so you can just put cells wherever makes the most sense in clusters, possibly in normal drivetrain areas since that's now free. This is what modern locomotives do, so it's proven tech. Edison Motors is doing this for semi trucks via conversion and it's giving them twice the mpg of standard diesel. -
