church has been doing a marriage series, this week was on singleness.
good info, stuff I need to meditate and work on.
Pastor wants to talk to me and a few elders on what they can do to help singles after I brought up concerns after sermon.
Pastor had a great sermon.
said that singles have a unique position where they don't have to worry about the needs of a spouse nor kids, and can focus their energy and attention to the Church.
He also told married couples to not downplay nor disregard the struggles and heartaches of singles, nor to downplay the struggles they face as married people.
but also listening to a sermon on the benefits and greatness of singleness from a man who is married, it kinda feels a bit flat, like:
"I understand you are speaking from scripture, but you don't understand the extend we as singles are going through and struggling with in this modern age"
After the sermon I confronted my pastor.
I shocked him by telling him how predatory dating apps are and how hard it is finding Christian people on them, even on the "christian" dating apps. I also asked what the church was doing for singles, since he talked about single groups in the church, but pointed out that none are listed, and asked how the church is helping singles be content but also help them find someone too.
I know it comes down to where I need to check my heart.
I need to see how I can use my singleness as a benefit.
but the point stands that I feel like my church and the Church in general forgets about singles.
They focus primarily on families, and give us less than crumbs.

I will see if my pastor follows through with his promise of meeting with me and bringing in some elders to talk strategies my church can do.
I will hope against desperation, but right now my heart is very heavy.

  I'm unchurched (Rev. 18:4) and can tell you that my faith has never been better. I was leaned on pretty hard by the pastor of my last church, who needed a "maintence man" - someone to serve the bitchy men and women of the congregation.
  As you say, (in a different way) God doesn't need any of us to get His will done - but the will of the congregation...that's a different story, isn't it?
  Please hang in there. Not necessarily with the "church", but with God.
  Your lonliness stinks, but the worst part of being lonely is still better than being in a bad marriage and a bad marriage is easy to get yourself into.

  The biggest treasure of being single and atomized, is that you can see the world as it really is. And, confront lies, and replace them with unpopular truth.
  
  What I have often seen, is a person start to see through a lie, or realize a truth. But, they cast if far away from them, when they realize it would damage their relationships, with marriage, or church family, or community.
  
  The more, disconnected you are, the more easily you can walk with God.

  I'd be very wary of anyone that teaches to direct your energy to any church. They devour peoples time, money, and energy. Often giving nothing in return.
  
  I've found God requires, neither dedication, nor money, nor even time, to use you for His purposes. Jesus' ministry is a good example of this.
  
  Where ever people are gathering money to do something for God, God is almost certainly not involved.

We are commanded throughout Scriptures to remove everything that will distract and turn us from the Lord, like in Luke 14:26 and Colossians 3:2. If they are correct regarding 1 Cor. 7, then singles must discouraged from marriage per the teachers' interpretation of verses 28-35. It doesn't matter that these same teachers cannot read the room and understand we are in a Psalm 78 world where "fire devours the young men and young women have no marriage song," and the West in one generation from demographic implosion and race wars. In their eyes demographics can go to hell, the singles are in their best station in life. They don't merely believe that they don't need to help singles get married. They believe they shouldn't help, lest they prevent the work of God.
  
  That is why the common and traditional interpretation of 1 Cor. 7 has to go. It breaks Scriptures and turns Godly ethics inside out. It came from the spirit of the the demonic "forbidding of marriage".

  @WashedOutGundamPilot @BigBoss_Luffy @branman65 Women are usually the ones push the popularized form of the "Gift of Singleness" cottage industry in the churches. Unwitting, married, and male theologians will help formulate technical "proofs" for these popularizers, but it's not the single men who are pushing in books, articles, and videos the theological theory that celibacy is a universal and net positive gift for all historical ages and marriage necessarily prevents one from properly serving God.
  
  Edit: I should clarify that I'm referring strictly to what is happening in the Protestant camp. Rome and the East have their own issues regarding celibacy and sexual ethics, but for entirely different historical and theological reason from what is going on in Protestantism in the last fifty years.

  my pastor's response was "man was not created to be alone"
  and heavily urged married couples to include singles into their families and lives.
  so that the single person isn't alone in their struggles with life

  @BigBoss_Luffy I'm not gonna give you my whole thesis on my thoughts on singleness theology because it's long and I am a shit explainer but I'll give you a TLDR: modern anti-marriage traditions are a negative influence upon the Church and are in error. but the Church thus slacks responsibilities because many congregations simply do not give a fuck if you die alone

  I can see that reasoning.
  as I also see the goodness of both marriage and singleness.

  My issue is that the Church no longer helps single members find someone nor helps them be content with singleness.
  "oh there's clubs, bars, and now dating apps, well guess that means we don't have to do anything"
  it's just like many other responsibilities the church started then handed off to the world.
