Because they bring me such joy, I will share with you all the software testing videos I share with my Software Design and Development students.
Video 1/3: “We don’t need user testing! We already know our users”
Because they bring me such joy, I will share with you all the software testing videos I share with my Software Design and Development students.
Video 1/3: “We don’t need user testing! We already know our users”
Video 2/3: “2 unit tests, 0 integration tests”
Video 3/3 (I feel this one •deeply•, to the bone):
“Developer watching QA test the product”
@trochee
Same
Every time I watch this video I laugh until my eyes water
And it's been that way for _years_ now
@inthehands This video is amazing. I can almost hear the quiet hum of satisfaction with which the soap dispenser gently soaps the hand of the person plugging in the power cable.
@libroraptor
I am both people, sometimes at once
@inthehands I am so often the person on the right.
@inthehands @lanodan "the UI is obvious" Now the ultimate question here is whether the teapot is being used as designed or not...
@inthehands Was that not originally "QA/dev watching as the user uses the product"?
If your QA team aren't shoving everything in every hole then they need firing!
Whereas it's well known that users will find unexpected ways to interact with your device/app/website.
@rgbunny
They’re so good! Also [professor voice™] stop watching videos in class!
@inthehands That last one made me laugh out in class :SataniaXD:
The others are great too.
@godofbiscuits @priscillaharing
Nobody is experienced enough, trained enough, or brilliant enough to design in a vacuum. Nobody. Even if they luck out sometimes.
@priscillaharing @inthehands I guess I’d all you’ve got is the developers designing the software then yeah, you do “need” user testing.
@inthehands "Users can learn how to use it" No they won't Mr Programmer, no they won't 🙃
@donw Ah, classic
@inthehands I put this together for a game design class I taught. https://youtu.be/t-KKMYE0s4Q?si=U6XLAAm5zBV2n-MZ
@fulanigirl
I once had a student say (I think of the second one? I forget) that they didn’t really understand the terminology from the reading until they watched the video.
@inthehands all three were hilarious. Thanks for posting. These videos answer so many questions.
@inthehands I've been using this one for a while (don't know who to credit):
@gershman
IMO if you’ve been in engineering for long and you haven’t been both of these people at one time or another, you’re doing something wrong
I feel for the person on the left, but most #Infosec people are cheering for person on the right! 🤣
@inthehands this is my favorite ‚user testing‘ example:
@inthehands this is another classic on user experience
@eons
I am obsessed with desire paths!
@jeanv
Ha, another unanticipated mode of usage!
Where is the hill? I’ve always wondered.
@inthehands Oh, hey! I slid down that hill last weekend.
@jeanv
Thanks! After years of enjoying the video as a mythic parable, wild to know it’s a real place.
@inthehands It's Bellevue Downtown Park in Bellevue, Washington. If you're nearby, it's a very nice spot to visit. 😁
@overflo
I mean, no choice there, that’s just the law
@inthehands never not gonna boost this masterpiece.
