@Hoss@ChristiJunior Yeah. Seriously. Nobody ever gave a flying fuck about "ethics in gaming journalism". People were mad about censorship and niggers/faggots being put into games. GamerGate 1.0 was profoundly dishonest about what was making them mad which also made them *WEAK*. Now we're clear: Take this shit out or you'll be Atari.
@Hoss@ChristiJunior They're fucked. From now on they will have to sell their services as "We will help you woke your games, but you have to promise not to tell anyone!" Every game developer in the industry now knows that hiring Sweet Baby (or a company like them) will get their game boycotted by the bulk of the US market. It's endgame. Game over. We won.
This is GamerGate done right.
"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."
No more "Oh look we're supporting a feminist charity!" or "Oh look, we have niggers and other browns in our ranks!" This is how Gamergate should have worked from DAY ONE. "We are your customers. We have preferences. You appeal to them and you get money. You don't and we will wreck you and you will go broke."
Luckily there's no "ethics in gaming journalism" meme discourse for people to get into useless autistic debates about this time around since gaming journalism is totally dead and basically hasn't been a thing for the better part of a decade. Now it's easy to cut to the chase: Make a game that doesn't suck ass or go out of business.
Hot take: it really was about "ethics in game journalism" because the people who were converted by GamerGate and its aftermath were naive at the outset. They had to learn. They weren't being disingenuous; they really did just want game "journalists" to approach the topic with an even hand.
@caekislove@Hoss "It's actually about ethics in gaming journalism" literally started out as a SJW joke mocking GG, it somehow becoming our dogma was the work of SJW Lites and e-celeb grifters who never wanted to seriously hurt the Marxists.
@NEETzsche@caekislove@Hoss I'd consider myself pretty naive at the time, but I 100% considered GG about fighting leftist/feminist propaganda in gaming journalism. Gaming journalism had sucked for decades, that was old hat, what was new was the attempt to push lunatic leftist politics and shill the likes of Anita Sarkeesian.
And even on KotakuInAction, the most popular threads were anti-SJW threads, that's why the faggot Mods ended up banning those very threads.
At the time I just viewed it as a way to troll annoying people, which was primarily feminists and leftoids. I was fairly apolitical at the time, perhaps even mildly left-leaning. I believed in things like race reconciliation efforts at the time. But the more batshit leftist elements always irritated me more than even the wackier elements of rightoid thought, so I naturally drifted to the right gradually. Thing is, I was a regular denizen of 4chan, like early 4chan from 2003, the beginning.
@caekislove@Hoss@ChristiJunior The thing is that they even wanted the Cancelers to go after people who didnt even accept their offer, reminder it is not the company to hate, but the people within it, each and every one.
@caekislove@Hoss@ChristiJunior You can hate the company as much as you want but in the end it is a name, the real thing to hate is the people within it and how it would be better if they were dead.
it is not companies. it is not laws. it is specific individuals. these individuals cannot be permitted in polite society. they need to be removed. there is no other solution to these problems than removing these specific individuals from society. this is why you're seeing all the same names that you saw 10 years ago: these are the people that are the problem
@ChristiJunior@caekislove@Hoss Think of gamergate as the flight of Wright brothers. You cannot just jump off with a fucking mig 15 without previous technologies being tested and known.
But it is my absolutely favorite historical anecdote, that the first flight was in December 17, 1903, and mere 66 years later, we landed on the fucking moon.
Don't be rough on the people making first steps. Noone knew of the woke cause back then.
@William_The_Dragonborn@ChristiJunior@Hoss@caekislove seriously, imagine an alternate world where sweet baby inc was staffed with our guys. what do you think they're gonna tell them? they're gonna say things like "make tifa's tits bigger" and "make the loli EVEN FLATTER" and videogames would be saved overnight
it is not companies or power structures it is people. the issue is that bad people are allowed to have power
@caekislove@LukeAlmighty@Hoss Milo actually did some genuinely great work during early GG tho. He also viciously attacked SJWs without virtue signaling about how good feminism or left-liberalism is.
Later Milo is vile, but I was genuinely a fan of his back in the day.
@LukeAlmighty@caekislove@Hoss Oh, there was definitely a lot of bad faith during GG. People like Sargon were probably somewhat sincere (as evidenced by his later political evolution), but someone like Nicole Sund was 100% an Enemy and Infiltrator.
@Lavaearth@ChristiJunior@Hoss The GDC is the biggest din of SJW cancer in the games industry. Anyone involved with it should be considered HIGHLY suspect.
@caekislove@ChristiJunior@Hoss Well, the first shot that got to me were the "gamers are dead" articles, so I definitely cannot deny, that it did look that way to me at the time.
@ThatWouldBeTelling@ChristiJunior@Hoss@William_The_Dragonborn@caekislove laws mean nothing when there's no will to enforce them. if our guys were judges, they'd throw out those stupid laws like a prenup in a divorce case. laws exist to be a convenient excuse for people to claim they're just doing their job while enforcing their beliefs. the issue is not the laws. the issue is that bad people are using them as an excuse to enforce their beliefs.
You are dead wrong, at least in the US where diversity has been enforced by law starting in the 1960s.
Sure, there's much more to it, but with the Federal and more than a few state governments having their thumb firmly on the scales you can neither understand why Wokeness became so strong or what it will take to eliminate it.
Note Sweet Baby, a chilling name for this sort of company, is based on Canada but I doubt their story is any better.
@ChristiJunior@caekislove Yet again this just proves to me that anything with "gate" attached to the end is fucking useless. Just let communities gatekeep organically is far more effective.
@LukeAlmighty@ChristiJunior@caekislove@Hoss Gamergate was one of the first battles, and it was one that politicized a group that initially only wanted to grill. They attacked on other cultural fronts as well at the same time ("Oscars so white") but these were fields that were used to controversy for ages - Hollywood at least since "birth of a nation" and later the Hayes code. Gamers were young and not versed in fighting cultural battles, but they learned fast.
