When people say “host your own server” to me I am going to start telling them to represent themselves in court. We all have different skill sets and the bar for entry should not be being a server admin or mastodon is doomed to fail. There is no meaningful growth as it is . I want to see it succeed but chastising me does not make it so
but your problem is the reverse. your server is cool but the biggest fedi server is limiting their own users' access to your individual account. they'd do that wherever it was hosted. ultimately we need to break up MS, but having it as a default server is so useful right now. we really just need a new norm for moderation.
but what the mob did to you re Israel criticism, I'd probably never convince people here not to try to censor clearly conservative opinions.
@LALegault@wjmaggos Just scrolled through your history and found that. Unbelievable (believable). I’m sick of saying it but one instance should not be that big or have that much power.
I always thought that all this nonsense about "whiteness" and "correcting people on insensitivity to marginalized folk" really was a Trojan Horse to go after Leftist, anti-Zionist, marginalized, and sexually dissonant instances for running off the Fediverse through monopolized blacklists.
I'm thinking that if you are not a mod or poster at m/s and you don't have them already muted or blocked, you can try searching their instance for keywords contained in your toot.
But, yeah, the Alliance between BadSpace and M/S to recentralize blocklist censorship behind the cloak of "safety" is wearing mightily thin.
@AnthonyJK@chargrille@aral@LALegault I don't think this has anything to do with the BadSpace. -OP's issue is due to a very large instance making a moderation decision that affects people on that instance. -My understanding of the BadSpace is an openly curated list contributed to by many moderators to prevent bad actors from causing harm, with justification, & is open & available for moderators to use or not. This case seems like Mastodon.Social moderators non-transparently doing something.
You may pardon me if I beg to differ in my opinion.
One of the principal arbitrators of TBS happens to be the same moderator who launched a smear campaign on a variety of instances for trumped-up grievances and misinterpretations of things they tooted. Others associated with building the basic database for TBS have used strong-armed tactics to have instances fire mods for mild criticism of their arbitrary standards within their shared blocklists.
I have no issue with the principal goal that TBS has in protecting marginalized and especially Black Masto users from racist harassment and other deliberate bad actors. But, those standards need to be transparent, enforced fairly, and not be abused for individual personal beefs or thinly veiled purges of Indy Leftists or sexual dissidents or other groups under the cloak of "safety". Other far less destructive means for weeding out bad actors exist.
I just know the #western & #israelis hypocritical politics & medias would qualify you as "antisemitic" (disregarding the fact that if you was you wouldn't care of what the Nazis did to Jews).
OK, let's keep it simple. If I write: "The State of #Israel is using the same methodologies against the #Palestinians as the then #German#Nazis were using against the #Jews. Hence, the State of Israel is the New #Nazi State". Does such a statement offends against mastodon.world's moderation rules or not?
@wjmaggos@NoBeerToday@jonburr@aral@LALegault Then I think we need to rewrite the rule. I would need to discuss with the team, but what we i.m.o. want to accomplish with the rule is prevent supporting or promoting terrorism etc. Not discussing it.
Discussing 9-11 events is no problem, organizing/planning a new attack on our platform is.
"No posts or links to content supporting, featuring, or promoting hate groups, terrorism, mass violence or calls to violence."
Most obviously, doesn't discussion about even Sept 11 "feature" mass violence and terrorism? In a more disputed sense, I'd say supporting most US foreign policy is calling for violence. And if you say there's an exception for defense, that depends on how far back in a conflict we start the clock. was Hiroshima terrorism?
Mastodon.Social. Yep, beyond shadow banning, they started to use the nebulous concept of "Holocaust Inversion" to remove posts that are critical of #Israel and/or #Zionism.
It doesn't take a genius to figure-out what's going on at mastodon.social. For that reason, I moved to mastodon.world yesterday.
