Good morning. The ER was not exactly where I planned on spending my afternoon and evening into the wee hours. The good/bad news is that they discovered nothing wrong. Yet another medical mystery in my life. I have too many of those. #today #photography #health #Chicago

@Sumocat Had the MRI. The good news there is my brain and noggin are in great shape, so there’s that. Scary news is that it happened again after the MRI, freaked out the staff when I blacked out while attempting to go to the bathroom after the scan.

@WarnerCrocker That happened to me once. Transient ischemic attack passed while I was there. No way to diagnose without MRI. Hope you figure it out and can deal with it easily. 🤞

@mikecane That’s what sent us to the ER. It went off the charts with the cuff we use at home. Each time I got dizzy (sitting, lying down, etc…) it rose. It was a crazy day.

@mikecane Been on those for ages. BP was very under control which is why the sudden change (even with hom cuff) was noteworthy. It rose and fell in ER as well.

@WarnerCrocker Were you cold? I've had near-faint once but it was outside in frigid weather. Body apparently couldn't keep moving AND keep warm. Had to pick one. I stopped walking for a bit. Resolved. Did they ultrasound your carotids? They can have a blockage that could do that. That could also lead to stroke. Do you have tinnitus?

@WarnerCrocker @Sumocat Something like this happened to me 20+ years ago.

Turned out to be syncope, an occasional skipped heartbeat that deprived my brain of just enough oxygen to get dizzy and/or blank out.

Hasn't been a problem since I got a pacemaker. Good luck.

@davidtoddmccarty We got home about 3am. We know it’s not blood sugar/etc.. No one knows what it is and that’s the scary part. I hate hospitals as well. (They also hate me when they see me coming.)

It is sort of fun watching their theories fall one by one once they run tests. Based on initial diagnosis in my lifetime I shoiuld have been dead years ago.

Not sure which is better, finding nothing or knowing why it happened. Hope you figure it out quickly and it’s an easy fix. Like, you need to eat more spinach. Are you still in lockup?

@WarnerCrocker Three in a day is scary. If they haven’t checked your BP while standing, check that. I used to try to calm myself through attacks, and that is not the right choice when standing BP is low. Ok, I’m going to pull back before armchair diagnosing you, but I have to let you know, if you do any type of imaging with contrast agent, you need a lot of mineralized water to plump your veins and flush it out. Good luck.

Hmmm ... ask your primary to request a "tilt test" for you. I was having symptoms that are similar to what you're describing, and was diagnosed as having orthostatic hypotension - low blood pressure triggered by positional change. Mine was related to a side effect of a medication I had started about a month before, but there are many things that will trigger the condition. Also can be related to low sodium condition in the body or adrenal malfunction
