@WarnerCrocker If they paid attention, they wouldn’t need Gurman. Tim Cook stepping down as CEO? Yeah, because he’s the obvious choice to replace Arthur Levinson, who is due to step down as chairman. Mac Pro discontinued? Yeah, because Private Cloud Compute needs all the high-end silicon Apple can produce and source. All Gurman provides is a semblance of confirmation for what should be apparent.

Let me add something to this post before today’s iPhone event: if Apple does announce a 17 mini, I will fight the pre-order crowd to get it on day one, and if my new 13 mini case doesn’t fit it, I will buy a new Carved case too. I buy the mini for the size, not the price. Put it on the same 3-4 year cycle as the iPad mini, and let me pay you money every 3-4 years.

As sad as the entirety of Tim Cook’s presentation of Trump’s “participation”award was, for me, his upsell of this simple piece of glass was peak cringe. Designed by a marine corporal? It’s the Apple logo cut into round glass, plain text, and gold base as a separate piece. No gold trim and highlights on the glass. No grandiose message. And it bears Cook’s signature not Trump’s? Read the room, Cook.
