   What starts with 'M' and rhymes with 'feta'?

   There's lot of discussion about Threads.net and its impact on the fediverse. Here are two quick points I'd like to make in response to queries I've received.

   1) I'm aware that users are unable to post links to mas.to on Instagram. This may be due to website reputation rankings rather than any malfeasance on their part. Maybe!

   2) Some time ago we blocked Threads as a precautionary measure. We will monitor the situation and review as required.

     @PonderStibbons @trumpet the good thing is that you can block them at a user level even if your instance does not.

     I wasn’t aware. What data can an instance see once federated that they couldn’t get before?

     @plasma4045 @tokyo_0 @jcrabapple @PonderStibbons With respect, if an instance owner is deeply concerned about data privacy, they probably shouldn’t be federating to begin with. I don’t see the big deal here.

     @tokyo_0 @plasma4045 @jcrabapple @PonderStibbons That's not my argument. Based on my understanding of the Fediverse, our data is already in the hands of several sysadmins whom I may or mmay not trust. Are you arguing that any Fediverse server sysadmin is more trustworthy than Meta? If so, that feels more than a bit naive given some of the folks I've seen posting/running servers.
