Based on my understanding of the Fediverse, our data is already in the hands of several sysadmins whom I may or mmay not trust. Are you arguing that any Fediverse server sysadmin is more trustworthy than Meta? If so, that feels more than a bit naive given some of the folks I've seen posting/running servers.

@plasma4045 @tokyo_0 @jcrabapple @PonderStibbons With respect, if an instance owner is deeply concerned about data privacy, they probably shouldn’t be federating to begin with. I don’t see the big deal here.
