That the grifting shit, where they basically want to charge for homebrew shit? I lost interest in Wizards fucking ages ago, haven't looked into it past clickbait video titles tbh.
5e.tools has it covered, they don't get a fucking cent from me anymore.
I've been hearing crazy shit now for the past week. I know they want to implement profit sharing and royalties for homebrew anything going forward with their new OGL. One of the most bizarre claims was that they wanted to try and retroactively apply it so if you made some product that sold well under the original agreement the amended one would try and force you to pay a percentage of profits. Absolute batshit lunacy if true.
From what I've heard, nothing official has actually been announced. This is all leaks.
Of course, that could just mean they were actually planning on releasing this officially, but now they've gone into damage control mode and are hastily trying to change their plans.
If D&D is a small money maker to them, then they're doing it wrong. Maybe they overexpanded their expenses, and can't sustain it or something. But those books they keep pumping out aren't cheap, and they double charge you if you want online copies as well as physical. Plus they've got tons of free publicity from normie shit.. I know they hate their original fanbase, the ones that went back to 3.5 etc. But this is batshit if true dude haha, I'll have to go have a look at Critcrab's video/s on it!
I think it was Critcrab or another in the sphere covering it that brought up the retroactive profit sharing and yes it is insane and I thought the same thing that there is no way it could be legal but with the leak today it seems like they actively fucking hate their customers, are angry as fuck that D&D is such a small money maker for them, and will force absolute control down the throats of the entire fanbase.
D&D Beyond is a shit product and Hasbro, who has no clue who their audience is, is butthurt that no one wants it. I don't know, make a better product if you want to make money, Hasbro?
I never tried it, but it's like a homebrewed 3.5e from what I've heard? I've only played a bit of 3.5, mostly bastardized copies for PC games like neverwinter nights and DDO tbh.
I kinda like it, a bit bloated so it's not for everyone but I prefer it to the casual 5e route.
5E's a lot easier and more casual friendly, it's still easy to fuck up the gameplay though. Table to table preference there really.
I've homebrewed so much that it's practically a new game tbh, heroic fantasy ez mode doesn't sit well with me. I prefer warhammer fantasy roleplay's grimdark feel, shit like criticals that can explode on you. So even a goblin with a shortbow could get a lucky shot in that just KO's you, or you could absolutely destroy a dragon in a single crit etc. It adds a lot of tension, encourages strategy and combat avoidance.
Tweaked XP gain too, so it's not just "Kill a thing, get XPs, level up totally irrelevant shit" which only encourages combat if you want to level up.
Yeah at this point everything put in a store is megawoke. Look for online archives (these to sadly are run by trannys) or used book stores for older editions.
Yeah, PF1 was decently solid, but PF2 is lackluster mechanically and the company, Paizo, is basically owned by its tranny brigade. Anymore you either have to stick to older editions or branch out to stuff like Castles and Crusaders or Savage Worlds.
Losing 10% of your active customer base is significant. Specifically because the sort of people invested enough to pay attention to this stuff are the whales they want to milk. Your average dnd player only buys the player hand book, and many of those buy it second hand or borrow a friend. They want to transition their business model to allow for more “micro transactions”, to use a word most people understand for this, and how they are doing it is angering their paypigs
That will never happen, 90% of the customer base are fucking drones like everything else and despite there being literal thousands of competitors they will never look into anything else.
Dude they used to have nazis and shit, you could be Sabbat etc. If you look at all the shit they stripped out of their original version out of wokery, it's pretty fucking substantial.
Its been going on for much longer, the vampire the masquerade ttrpg started to go woke after WW got bought out by the owner of eve online. Then went uberwoke when purchased by a bitcoin eurofag a few years back.
@Sui@Twinkletard@Jim they don't care about the customers that just buy 1 book with the WotC logo on it and then never spend more money, they want to force everyone to to buy their books in perpetuity. instead of hiring better people to make better content they're just going to abuse the legal system to kill their competition. a tale as old as time.
You a DM? Pumpkin mom mentioned starting a D&D game up for livestreaming, probably wise to dodge wizards. Especially with all this shit. I doubt it'd effect smaller channels, but them demanding royalties from streamers that get flagged for using their content doesn't sound as ridiculous as what I'm listening to atm lol.
Yeah I can see that. Seems a bit retarded to put that shit in as some kind of "balance", when the rest of the game's absolutely fucked for balance lmao. I mean ffs, Fireball and Eldritch Blast are fine but "Oh no, don't want you being too powerful! You're not allowed to wear that as well!"
House rules are the way to go, especially if you're building a homebrew around the base rules. Right now I'm playing a witch hunter who sometimes makes use of an orcish sniper rifle, but also just picked up a warhammer made from Ymir's bones. (Also freed Auðumbla from a jinn bottle, and now she's chilling in my back yard.)
Absolutely. I have way more homebrew content than I do official, PDFs upon PDFs of that shit across various archives. I have campaign hooks, with their own homebrew shit, for almost every kind of punk punk & horror known to man lmfao.
Dude, I'm going full Goblin Slayer with my green skins. Fuck them and their ~"BUH-BUH-BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BLACKS!? If orcs are always raping and raiding, they'll be direct competition for the niggers!"
I have no idea on any details really, it was brought up on last week's stream and I've heard nothing since. But there's interest to play a game, even if it's 5E because of the normie mercer effect/stranger things surge.
I think the current plan is to get people together and do a test stream/game and play it by ear from there. I think it'd be fun to get a Chuds game going, even if it's not a streaming thing. Although the levels of munchkining/shitlordery.. It'll be entertaining lmao
Worst case scenario I'll throw together some shitlordy one shot/short campaign, where you fuckers can hunt lolcow goblinoids or some shit. Gunt the troll, Rekieta the sex pest goblin, Keffals the orc etc.
I just wanna do a dnd session that isn’t taken too seriously. I wanted to make a half car half dragon named “Coke Zero the Thirst Quencher (Registered Trademark)” and the DM wouldn’t let me.
A motherfucking car dragon? Too far dude. Too far.
Yeah, I've had more than my share of "No Sui. Make something else or you're not playing"s.. Then I make something, and they say it's worse than the first one and tell me to take it seriously. Like ffs, I was!
The back story was epic though! He was on a quest to find his mother who went missing after coming into contact with a mysterious obelisk. It would then be revealed that this obelisk was a fire hydrant and she was illegally parked. So she was towed away.
Lmfao. Mine were just like (usually intentionally) powergamer builds with shitlord skins over the top.
Got pre emptively kicked out of a superhero one because I had a zombie guy with a sentient penis that he would've thrown at the enemy and then it grappled them and exploded. 2nd draft was exploding hands, using near infinite C4 in a truck which gave me more points to play with. So I could make each segment of each hand its own minion, ended up basically being able to one shot anything in the game and the DM just told me to fuck off at that point lmao.
Same DM, different setting/system. He had this backstory he was psyched about, something about mages blowing up the planet into floating islands. So I was like "Cool, I'll be a retarded chaotic mage trying to follow in their footsteps." found how to clone enough copies of my dude, designed a build etc, "How many fireballs would it take to do it?" "Do what?" "Like blow up a chunk of the planet." "No. You're not playing.".
Even if it's a straight by the book campaign, it'll beat my last one that me and Doll endured in person. That fucker was terrible.
Some generic 5E campaign module, focused around dragons and shit. I made a neutral/evil tiefling warlock/sorc, he was basically a flying gatling gun of eldritch death. I gave the DM some leeway, made him a celestial warlock so he could be like "Nope, your patron's pissy" as a leash or whatever. Nope. So I mostly just went around collecting eyeballs, trying to grasp at things to make my guy give a fuck about the campaign. Found dragon eggs, I carry one out. He wouldn't let me hatch it because "It doesn't say you can in the book", he dragged that one out for like 4 fucking sessions of me trying different things to hatch this fucking egg. Even made me roll, I got a nat 20, NOTHING.
Found some lizardmen slaves and frogmen, I unite the lizard slaves and make them overthrow their tyrants. Doesn't let me keep any of them, not in the book. Bunch of gay shit in between but the end fight was the last straw.. Me and Doll pretty much duo'd that dragon in a single round, before it did anything. I got 5 or 6 eldritch blasts into him, she got an assassin crit into him, on an ambush. Other player chipped it down to 1/2 health and- "OK, it says he runs away at 1/2 health. So he flies out." ".... What?" "Yeah, it says at 1/2 health he tries to run away. And I haven't read ahead, don't know if this guy turns back up. So he gets out." "... But I have giants guarding the one exit of this cave?" "Yeah, he flies past those." "But the exit is over a turn's flight away?" "Yeah" ".. And attacks of opportunity?" "Nope.".
...So, we left pretty quickly after that. Haven't spoken to him since lmao.
He just wanted to collect the books/minis, zero creativity or improv skills. He also kept silencing the other player, pretty sure he was a gay but they had this weird pseudo relationship going.. I can't remember what it was he kept saying, but it was like every half sentence she dared to speak, to shut her up. It was driving us insane by the end.
I was the highest charisma character, so it was mostly me being the face and him reading out boring wotc script back at me. Overall, it totally sucked balls. Like seriously, you can't give me a fucking escort mission? Like a hatchling dragon that can't really do fucking anything and needs to be protected? Something, anything. What's the fucking point when I can play more responsive PC games than that shit?
It was also trivially easy. I think I was the only one that even dropped to 0HP, because I was near to a trapped chest (which was a stupidly high DC with fuck tons of damage, for some reason) when it went off. I barely ever needed to heal anyone, none of our flaws were exploited, enemies were played more basic bitch than the Diablo 1 AI.. Bleh. Ok, I'll stop fucking ranting now. Apparently I'm still seething over that energy/time sink a bit.
AH FUCK. That's the fucking one. Oh, I wanted to strangle that fucker every time he said it.
And he didn't even let you kill your fucking backstory targets. A fucking assassin, with a list of names taken from the campaign module.. Wouldn't even let her kill them. Wtf is even that?
I do still want to do the chud DnD thing but I definitely don't have time to organize it and I am an inexperienced player. Last campaign I played was some Vampire the Masquerade thing 20 years ago. I can make a new post about this to gauge interest and get a list of potential players but someone else will need to head it up after that as far as being DM.
Well yeah, they don't want to lose a cash cow and fix you.. I mean, that's not encouraged by the system at all. They just want you to become dependent on them, and big pharma.
Pfft, no. Ancap till death mofo. If there was a free market, a system of therapy that actually aimed to help rather than exploit could thrive and out compete the current grifters. Come join my utopia, just don't drink the flavour aid (yet).
I went through my "liberal" phase back before GG tbh, think it was Occupy that killed that illusion of humanity for me.
*rolls Nat 20* Leaps into the air and I catch the molotov between my cheeks similar to how Nickey Rackets would. I smother the flame with my cheeks and proceed to butt chug the contents of the bottle.
Oh? Sweet. Doesn't seem too complicated in 5E, a little more with stuff like restrained vs prone but it's negligible at a glance.
Does it let dolphins grapple? I'm now totally sold on this character concept lmao. 5E grapple druid is actually pretty workable, strangely, especially at higher level with the better beasties. Does seem a bit weird that something like a mammoth can easily knock things prone but not grapple (even by sitting on them or something), by RAW though. Seems to be mostly if the DM is on board with your character design really or not lol.
