"Syncthing is not a backup!" they said. And I just learned why - the hard way.

Apparently, when moving files around, it can happen that it deletes them first and recreates them in their new location later.

I was reorganizing my files on the remote end when the remote disk failed. My local copy was in the process of mirroring the changes and is now incomplete.

Which means the only intact copy of all my files is on the failed disk. Wish me luck.

Like how to collect loads of people's data without consent and sell it to dubious ad customers.

Or investing into property and finding reasons to raise the rent., that probably also makes a lot of money.

@piloni I'm a game engine programmer. This is my hardware testing station. It's a 4K screen, capable of handling 4 separate 1080p inputs.

Unfortunately, it cracked while moving to a new office last year, but it's still good enough to run my tests on it.

Since the testing machines are only used for specific tests, they don't have enough uptime to automatically update, so I'm doing it manually right now.

@kaia Oof. At least it's not raining. Well I assume it's not.

@TheBaldness I don't always eat breakfast, but when I'm hungry in the morning I eat a lye roll without anything. They're less calories than a crossiant, and because of the lye they're not as dry as a normal bread roll.

My neighbor's smoke detector went off last night while they weren't home.
It was on their balcony, not mounted. The entire house could hear it.

He must've taken it off for some reason, and then it got triggered by rain falling onto it.

I called the police. They would've been allowed to enter to disable it, but they couldn't find a way into the balcony either. So they left.

Turns out a smoke detector will beep continuously for about 3 whole hours straight before it runs out of battery. #TIL

@enigmatico @ocean I rather work in the games industry than somewhere else. It's fun, but it's also not fun, simply because it's hard work. Nobody gets up in the morning and thinks "I can't wait to go to work!"

I can still enjoy games and I love playing, but the specific genres I have worked on are burned forever. So yeah, partially true.

WTF?! My 71 year old mother just called me, because her #Samsung #Tablet has no internet connection. I told her to reboot it, but she said it won't let her. Turns out Samsung decided to make the power button dedicated to the #Bixby assistant. They want her to tell Bixby "Please turn off the tablet". But remember how I said the tablet has got no internet? :)

I'm so pissed right now. My mum was so proud that she learnt how to restart her devices on her own, and now this shit.
