That EU law does not require a #CookieBanner unless the web site wants to track your clicks or sell your data.

Because people do not understand this, they think "stupid EU law" instead of...

    - "website owner has no respect for consumer rights"
    - "website owner has no solid business plan and just hopes for a few bucks from the advertisement industry"

Any experienced C developers among my followers? #BoostsWelcome.

Expat, arguably the world's most popular #XML parser, is understaffed and without funding. As #xz has shown, situations like this are dangerous.

Last month, maintainer Sebastian Pipping put up a plea for help at https://github.com/libexpat/libexpat/blob/R_2_6_2/expat/Changes

(I would help myself, but my C skills barely surpass "Hello, World".)

I think the #xz incident is teaching us that our infrastructure is dangerously fragile in the face of well-organized/funded attackers. The response isn’t “try harder” or “donate to your OSS project”, it needs to be institutional, professional, and at scale. So, here’s my proposal, called “OSQI”, aimed at starting a how-to discussion: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2024/04/01/OSQI

No. The point about infrastructure access shows it's not *fair* or *symmetrical* warfare, but of course it *is* war.

One could say "it's not war, it's far worse" or "it's not war, it's a massacre".

But saying *only* "it's not a war" sounds like you're *downplaying* it, which I hope is not your intention.

Think I'd go for #Marzipan of Lübeck quality (66% almonds). No, not coated with chocolate. Only the pure stuff.

Umm... maybe we shouldn't judge Italian spelling, at least not if we're using English for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghoti ??

      Ghoti
Ghoti is a creative respelling of the word fish, used to illustrate irregularities in English spelling and pronunciation. Explanation The word is intended to be pronounced in the same way (), using these sounds: gh, pronounced as in enough or tough ; o, pronounced as in women ; ti, pronounced as in nation or motion .The key to the phenomenon is that the pronunciations of the constructed word's three parts are inconsistent with how they would ordinarily be pronounced in those placements. To illustrate: gh can only resemble f when following the letters ou or au at the end of certain morphemes ("tough", "cough", "laugh"), while ti would only resemble sh when followed by a vowel sound ("martian", "patient", "spatial"). The expected pronunciation in English would sound like "goaty" , not "fish". History...

@Mrfunkedude A way to subscribe to a thread so that each new reply to that thread appears in my timeline. (Maybe allow deadlines like with filters?)

Rationale: I often encounter an interesting thread & read all posts available at that time. Ideally, I would now like to "follow" it (similar to GitHub issues or Discourse forum threads).

Workaround: bookmark the starting post & *try* to remember to check by later. But finding the new posts among the old ones is really cumbersome.
