How I instruct people to join Mastodon. First I don’t mention instance anything ! Secondly i provide them a link. Either Mstdn.social or my instance if they like gaming … tell them to follow the prompts to sign up. Give them a few suggestions to follow. And boom they are generally hooked ! Once they are familiar I mention instances I mention federated vs local. Once they’re comfortable they seem to grasp it way better.

@BeAware from what I’ve gathered it’s gate keeping over existing mastodon content. So GIFs, text posts, picture and hyperlinks. I’m not paying to looking at a GIF. I am not paying to click a YouTube link. Offering something bigger? Something worth a price maybe that could work. I like most people use this to laugh at cat photos. I am not paying to do that. If people had to pay for Facebook it never would have worked. Twitter blue? Didn’t work…

@BeAware I am willing to pay for video content , games and Physical items. I am not willing nor should anyone be willing to pay for 250 character or less “toot” or photos. I’m not on here to make money and most people aren’t. Much like Wikipedia donations and funding can sustain. Want more ? There is patreon, esty among so many others. I am not side your income

Just want to remind everyone this is on the Mastodon webpage. Makes this idea of premium Mastodon posts more egregious..

In the United States it’s Black History Month, no better time to talk again about Jerry Lawson.

Jerry was the lead engineer on the Fairchild F. He was also the inventor of the Fairchilds key feature: interchangeable software ! Or probably better known as game cartridges.

Jerry’s invention arguably revolutionized the gaming industry. If it wasn’t for his work , the Atari 2600 nor the NES might ever have existed !
