Leaving “Sent from my iPhone” on is a complete release from the aesthetic jail of composing a well crafted email. Just throw words onto your screen and send. You are set free, there is no form to bend to
StreetPass now has preset options for opening profiles with Mona (@MonaApp) and Phanpy (@phanpy)! First update of 2024 - some cool things coming later 😄
One year of StreetPass today!! Here's an abridged list of everything that's gone down
- Initial Chrome-only spaghetti code extension - 🦊 Firefox - Beautiful new icon by @andycarolan - 🧭 Safari - Export data - Retry logic if a Mastodon instance happens to be down when queried - Updated the mastodon codebase itself to start returning avatars in webfinger responses - Display usernames and avatars instead of just profile links - Editing features: Reset and Hide functionality
@cdevroe@ChrisPirillo how could StreetPass be more akin to the original UX of the RSS icon? Maybe by showing the current page’s linked profiles at the top of the list, regardless of if you’ve seen it already?
Other platforms such as mastodon correctly respond to both webfinger requests, which is how streetpass works! i'm happy to open up a PR this week! both requests are spec-compliant btw
So excited to announce a brand new feature for StreetPass: Custom Profile URLs! Users now have the ability to set a custom URL scheme they want profiles to be opened with.
This feature is super powerful. Not only can you set it to your home server to easily follow people, you can also set it to 3rd party Mastodon apps... even native ones (🤯)! A few presets include @ivory, @elk, and @IceCubesApp, as well as mastodon.social & mastodon.online
I think I figured out a way to show profile pics on StreetPass, all while still keeping the logic for profile resolution 100% clientside (no centralized server needed & no data ever leaving your browser!)
It involves pushing a change to Mastodon itself 👀 We can update the webfinger responses to include an “avatar” link – something that's already documented in the webfinger spec here https://webfinger.net/rel/
