Bluesky has a lot of smart design decisions that have really helped the communities there thrive. Onboarding is one thing; seeing positive growth ensures staying power. I like mastodon but enjoy bluesky.

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Friday, 15-Nov-2024 06:54:05 JST John Cutting @AnarchoNinaWrites the last I will probably say because I'm hesitant to give unsolicited advice on the internet. This goes for the plural 'you.'
Block and move on. It's not your responsibility to educate them, and it's just terrible for everyone's health to carry interactions like that on for more than a few minutes. They need to get the support that they need to unpack a few things, and the people who do that usually charge by the hour. -

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Friday, 15-Nov-2024 06:33:21 JST John Cutting @AnarchoNinaWrites it's fine. It's literally my job to help people like them (usually in leadership positions). It's nothing worse than what I've heard from some petty middle manager this week.

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Friday, 15-Nov-2024 04:10:59 JST John Cutting @RoguePlayer @AnarchoNinaWrites Refusing to do the obviously right thing because you are afraid it might cause you to lose your job feels like a pretty good reason to remove you from a leadership position in and of itself. I don't think I'm alone in that position, as the results showed.
I voted for Harris, but I can easily see why others didn't.

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Friday, 15-Nov-2024 01:43:03 JST John Cutting @AnarchoNinaWrites for over a year since they decided to keep funding a genocide, I had the same thought. All of those were deliberate choices that they knew were unpopular. This is exactly the direction they wanted and decided on that instead of representing their constituents, providing a vision that good leadership requires, or spending any political capital or goodwill to improve obvious problem areas.
The reelection of Donald Fucking Trump is Biden's legacy because his actions are indistinguishable from the actions of someone intentionally trying to get him reelected in that position.

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 12:01:33 JST John Cutting @mekkaokereke I spent all day yesterday driving Muslim people to the polls. The fact that they didn't know what Kamala would do about Gaza is a problem. The fact that Kamala's platform was to the right of Biden's campaign was a problem. The fact that that administration tried their damnedest to ignore the people who worked their butts off in 2020 to put them there was a problem.

Sixteen million people didn't switch sides. They sat out precisely because Kamala and the actual Biden administration didn't dance with who brought them there. -

I was hoping you were wrong and that something would hold out against the brutal lack of object permanence in the American left... But you called it. I hate that I know we, as a society, will learn all the wrong lessons from this. -

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Monday, 15-Jul-2024 01:33:43 JST John Cutting Trump lavishing praise on Rittenhouse's intentional murder of protesters remains the most galling example of the right's explicit endorsement of political violence to me because it clearly demonstrates how little the real and terrible violence mattered to him when it was pointed at "undesirables."
Trump said, "He should not have had to suffer through a trial for that." The violence that Rittenhouse enacted, to Trump, was so obvious and necessary that even an *inquiry* into whether or not three people should have been shot in the streets was seen as an affront.

John Cutting (jcutting@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jun-2024 00:07:50 JST John Cutting @AnarchoNinaWrites Schadenfreude isn't a vice. It's an important calibration tool for a moral compass. And it's fun as hell.
Schadenfreude is my rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens.
