I imagine it has to do with the recency of immigration, and where in the States they went. No waves of Scandinavians in the last hundred years, who would want to preserve their foodways with eateries to gather together in. My Danish ggps came to San Francisco in the 1870-80s. By my childhood, we still had pickled red cabbage with holiday dinners. No more. Maybe in Minnesota?

I now confront my sentimental attachment to old bedding. Not necessarily hand made patchworks, but things from my natal household, or that of my mother. Blankets, bedspreads, of cotton or wool. Things that held memories for my grandfather, then my mother, and now me.
