@kimlockhartga I imagine it has to do with the recency of immigration, and where in the States they went. No waves of Scandinavians in the last hundred years, who would want to preserve their foodways with eateries to gather together in. My Danish ggps came to San Francisco in the 1870-80s. By my childhood, we still had pickled red cabbage with holiday dinners. No more. Maybe in Minnesota?
Robin Ince talks about resigning from Infinite Monkey Cage, having been told that he mustn't advocate for trans rights, even on his own time. The transphobic machine works fast, especially in the UK. He is on the spectrum, has many interests, including poetry and the natural world, and especially, integrity. #transrights#humanrights#mentalhealthhttps://www.patreon.com/RobinInce/posts/gaslight-story-166772997
Some folks, including @leapingwoman , mentioned a great sleep-inducing podcast called Boring Books for Bedtime, and I am now a fan too. Her mellow voice is remarkably consistent, and the whole thing is advert-free! And AI free!
I now confront my sentimental attachment to old bedding. Not necessarily hand made patchworks, but things from my natal household, or that of my mother. Blankets, bedspreads, of cotton or wool. Things that held memories for my grandfather, then my mother, and now me.
"Way out west, where the bad men are, and the only thing to guide you is the evening star, there's the roughest, toughest, gal by far, that's Ragtime Cowgirl Joy." 🎶🎵 #plushtodon
This is to say to the vibrant #Trans community and allies here on Mastodon that there is a principled ally (he left a secure gig at the Infinite Monkey Cage!) who has been trying to make a go of it without the algo focus of other places. He is on UK time so take that in, and all the heightened transphobia that goes with that discourse.
Generation Jones. Cis/het-grace. Her. I dissent. I boost. I wish people would stop saying “let that sink in.” I post photos that I take with my own phone camera, usually recently. I will say if otherwise. Profile pic is very old. Let that sink in.
