One of the best actions I took in the aftermath of the election was to join the local branch of the League of Women Voters. I couldn’t tell from their website whether they were even active in any way, but I mailed a check to the address indicated. I have since been eagerly cultivated to supply my additional contact information, and receive an intelligent newsletter of local issues and hearings, events and analysis. While officially nonpartisan, they clearly work for democracy and human rights.
