I did my first PR to the repo yesterday, after having contributed a bunch of bug reports and comments over the years. When I did that, the repo had 316 pull requests open. Three hundred and sixteen.

Clearly, not enough people are contributing!

After having experienced modern medicine for a few decades as an adult now, I must say, the amount of "we know exactly what's broken in your body right now, but we have no idea why, or how to solve it" is rather disappointing.

Yes, we made incredible progress over the last 150 years. But I think a person 150 years from now will probably wonder how we even got to 8 billion humans like this.

There's a company that builds upon decades-old research, which has developed a one-time probiotic treatment to change your mouth's microbiome to contain bacteria that don't attack your teeth (causing caries), but instead produce a weak antibiotic that disrupts the metabolism of the bacteria that do.

The new bacteria that live in your mouth also live from sugar, so the company's recommendation for jump-starting their reproduction after the treatment is to eat candy.

@vbhide How would pretty much certainly getting rid of caries for the rest of your life not be "worth it"?

@vbhide That should be the default position, but if it can be proven safe in this case (and we're talking about bacteria, not gene therapy), then it could have tremendous benefits relative to the risks.

@vbhide ... especially because it's recently been shown just how dangerous cavities can be to the rest of the body, including the brain (e.g. significantly increasing the risk for dementia).

@vbhide Even if you're extremely strict about cutting out sugar, it's almost impossible to guard your teeth long-term without significant manual cleaning and maintenance efforts. If I can get rid of the risk altogether, almost 100%, then no amount of strict lifestyle and nutrition choices (which you can't even make all the time when traveling) could beat that.

@alex I'm wondering: are kind 1 notes not replaceable ever, or is it just something that mostr hasn't implemented for AP-side edits yet?

@cjd @lain As a tourist, you still need one when buying from the bottle shop, but they create the entry for you when you hand them your passport as a new customer. Also, a friend of mine said he had a friend who was employed in Dubai, and his boss didn't allow him to get the license. Not sure if that's still a thing or not.

I have seen many shitty transport company booking websites, but the sheer amount of catastrophic errors on https://www.gnv.it takes the cake for now.

It's currently 100% impossible to pay with either payment option for me, solely due to back-end implementation mistakes. Not even speaking of hilarious other back-end errors, like being completely unable to process account numbers (which they want you to enter manually, because being logged in doesn't identify you during booking).

Just FYI: The person on the phone was super nice, did the booking for me, and required way less data for it than the web forms. And they have special permissions for debit card payments without 3D Secure and such (which is one of the things the back-end wasn't able to handle).

@silverpill Fair enough. However, the nature of VC doesn't change the nature of the protocol in this case. If they would compromise privacy, they would lose most of their users, since that's the USP of the product.

The biggest drawback of #simplex seems to be that it doesn't really have multi-device support, or am I missing something? Can't speak to how solid the rest of it is, especially in real use. But it does seem to solve a lot of issues of existing chat protocols, especially regarding privacy and account portability.

The amount of websites and services that are blocked and/or banned in Turkey is unbelievable. Haven't seen something like this anywhere outside of mainland China.

What's great about buying eSIM packages on Bitrefill is not just that you can pay via #LightningNetwork, but even when you buy a package for only a single country, it just allows you to roam elsewhere for free afterwards. Not sure if intended, but I certainly won't complain!
