Nothing about us without us; the emancipation of the working classes must be conquered by the working classes themselves, too long have workers been waiting for some Moses to lead them out of bondage, etc.
I get frustrated when good people cook up solutions that stomp all over these principles. Especially when they are not the people doing the work...
Which is to say, I love it when we find each other and cook up our own solutions for our work.
The right-wing government of Argentina recently announced plans to shutdown over 11,000 #cooperatives. Cooperators and workers in #Argentina have been mobilizing to prevent these closures.
Please sign this open letter in support of Argentina’s more than 24,000 cooperatives that have been providing good and decent jobs to tens of thousands of Argentines.
@ntnsndr@christina@Rushkoff@baratunde Also, Rushkoff's observations are often hilariously apt, like the one about smoking weed behind the 7-11 as an example of a homeplace created in the shadow of an exploitative institution...
@christina@ntnsndr@Rushkoff@baratunde Nathan raises great questions and draws exciting connections between on and offline practices and the way technology expresses and facilitates them (or doesn't). Totally relevant to our little experiment in democratic life here in Social.coop.
@christina@ntnsndr@Rushkoff@baratunde this podcast also helps me understand Nathan's interest in blockchain; diasporas as models of networked identity and political location vs nation states and danger of startups as networked private power
@ntnsndr@robin@boris Definitely want to underscore the fact that Nathan and others have indeed pushed for Social.coop to support cooperative open source projects. The new Organizing Circle is getting itself organized but will organize a budget discussion so we can be strategic in this.
@boris@ntnsndr@robin Like I said, my initial response. I am skeptical about social.coop putting any of our collective resources to that purpose, but I understand that people may be interested.
@ntnsndr@robin@boris initial response, "oh hell no" Of all the things we could do: support framasoft, help improve activity pub, support MayFirst.coop.... etc. why Bluesky?
(Sitting at the auto shop waiting on a tire with a slow leak.) Friends, how about from now on whenever we mention the 7 ICA Cooperative Principles we always point out that there are various versions (#Mondragon, #DisCO, #CooperationJackson) and even cooperatives like #CECOCESOLA that eschew lists in favor of constant dialogue among members... #cooperativism
