@dansup Thanks Dan, I just downloaded the new iOS App Store version (it’s tiny and quick to download compared to all the usual bloatware) and logged in, saw my old TestFlight videos and added a new one, no issues nicely done!
@evan@Matt_Noyes What’s the training cost for a human? Human programmers in the US are around 20 Tons of Carbon a year for their operational cost. I agree with Evan’s data. It’s in the same range as my own estimates, and I’ve been working with the Green Software Foundation and tracking carbon use of cloud in detail for the last few years.
@briankrebs I’d say that the root cause is propagating config files globally without staging them and verifying that they work, and rolling back changes that don’t work.
I do some advisory work with #Nubank $NU which is a big (well over 100M customers), young and fast growing Brazilian based fintech that has some very cool and senior people working remotely from the US like Michael Nygard (author of Release It! - Chief Architect), and @CatSwetel GM of their platform team - they are looking for a really senior expert to lead and scale their Kafka messaging infrastructure #GetFediHired
@evan@yala@mfowler@bboeckel Cool, appreciate you reading it. I’m still boggled and surprised by what it can build. Most of the time I’ve wasted is because I didn’t understand the build system tooling it’s using, and I’ve mostly figured that out now. I also didn’t ask it to make a detailed UX plan at the beginning, which was an oversight.
@thisismissem@yala@mfowler@bboeckel It’s an ambitious idea, so it may not end up working as I’d like, but the key development I’m playing around with is the idea that the delivered installation includes the LLM that helps configure, extend and debug the system. This is the kind of system that doesn’t work for packaged or SaaS delivery because it needs too much on-site consulting support to get everything working.
@thisismissem@yala@mfowler@bboeckel The service ran first time I tried it, rather than crashing, and basic functions respond as expected by using curl to the API. Thats a good basis for iterating. I was as doubtful as you are until yesterday.
@skinnylatte Very cool info, thanks! I think the bus ride from Salinas to Monterey takes more than 20min, it’s over 20 miles and is more like an hour, depending on traffic.
@DreamGryphon#loops is supposed to take videos up to 60s, and I previously uploaded some longer ones. I’m currently getting “unknown error” for anything between about 15 and 59s. I’m on a good wifi connection, speed test about 22Mbit/s upload. @dansup
@GossiTheDog@SteveSyfuhs The report clearly says that AWS, GCP and Oracle cloud all have far better practices like automated key exchange and reduced key scope and use of HSMs, and I know that AWS has had these for many years. I’d expect the competition to use this to win a bunch of cloud deals from Azure. If I was a CIO I’d be trying to move email (the most locked in cloud service) from Microsoft to Google ASAP.
@GossiTheDog I thought that when Charlie Bell went to Microsoft he was going to try to fix their security architecture amongst other things… EVP Security? He ran a tight ship at AWS. Wonder what happened? https://www.linkedin.com/in/charlie--bell
