“This is my life now”

I know I've been talking a lot recently here on ye olde blogge about my continued path toward recovery from my surgery last year. Part of that is because I'm frankly happy about the fact that I'm starting to feel like my old self again, but a bigger part of it is because I'm struggling with the notion that for a very long time it seemed like feeling awful was just going to be my life now.

@roadriverrail How is your Steam Deck experience overall? I pre-ordered one and have had it since the release but I hardly use it. It's probably the type of games I find myself playing these days (Talisman, Civilization, Catan...)

@roadriverrail So far so good. If he was in a twelve step program he would need to spend a lot of time on the amends thing, because he's got a lot of work to do in that regard, but I have faith in him that he can do it.

Continuing my exploration/comparison of Threads and Mastodon...I have absolutely been more active over there, but...this feels more personal and interesting? It still has the old LJ feel for me of small audience with common/weird tastes.

Mind you, it doesn't hurt that the few folks I know personally here were with me on LJ back in the day.

@roadriverrail I sure hope so, but with as much as I have had to pull away from everything in the last few years it makes me worry.

While I am enjoying Threads the lack of engagement I am having there is a bit disturbing. Like, I reply directly to people that I personally know and get nothing. It is weird. AITA?

@roadriverrail I have this weird thing that happens where I'll get a notification about something but can't ever find it. What was it for?! A comment? A Boost? Only the Shadow knows.

@roadriverrail Exactly that. You and @maladrin are the two people I am closest to here (amusingly, both also old school LJ folks AND people who bailed on Twitter).

My social life has been kinda trashed in general since 2019 so that part isn’t quite so bad, but I do miss seeing life snippets from people I think are keen.

I set up a Threads account recently after seeing several of my Instagram friends did so.

I prefer Mastodon in terms of interacting with interesting people who I do not know personally, but I am enjoying seeing more content from people I do know that I have lost contact with after leaving both Twitter and Facebook.

Ultimately not sure where I will land on Threads, but for now I'm there.
