@Tweetfiction Actually, there weren't. The promoter just asked me to keep the vibe going. I was mixing a blend of melodic house & techno, deep house, and tech house, and just trying to keep the energy right. I was mostly mixing in a music trance; didn't even realize 4 hours went by. It seemed I did a pretty good job with it; a lot of the patrons came up and thanked me personally. One said I'd helped her mark off a line on her bucket list.

@Tweetfiction @jacobyaudio It'll happen. It's just a matter of time before it comes back around again. Granted, I'm very much a first-waver at this point, so I just listen to old Prince Buster records.

@Tweetfiction @jacobyaudio The third wave came along at a moment in musical history when, IMHO, A&R execs had absolutely no idea what to do. Too many pieces of captured talent from the early 90s were dead, chronically in rehab, or had become passe. Rock radio music at the time was pretty diverse and weird...Tool would be followed by The Refreshments. Indeed, Stefani ended up playing the pop star game, but the industry also pivoted heavy away from rock and toward pop. 1/2

@roadriverrail @jacobyaudio I'm convinced third wave only had a brief moment because the two potential Kurt Cobain's if you will, Brad Nowell and Gwen Stefani, died way too early and got co-opted. But to this day I can still happily listen to Operation Ivy and Less than Jake and the like. It's peppy music for when you need that.

@Tweetfiction @jacobyaudio I actually lived in and near Gainesville, FL when Less Than Jake were in their prime. It was a magic time to live in a college town with a vibrant local music scene. There were just so many great bands thriving in the area back then. The slow collapse of that scene really mirrors the "gentrification" of the college town experience. 2/2

@mcmcgreevy @Tweetfiction Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who still remembers that song. It's a banger, and I reckon I could see a good strip dance being done to it, I suspect my tastes are well in the minority.

@roadriverrail @Tweetfiction They played a concert at our university. I want to say it was the spring of 1996. I was on the student production team that had organized the concert. The band walked in and the first thing they asked was if anyone knew where a basketball court was. I was more than happy to introduce them to the court across the street.

Being a trumpet player, I was a little in awe of Sledge. 🎺
