However, you tell me: who is going to be putting $8000 CVTs in a fucking Altima 3x to reach the lifetime of a Chevy Impala, 265k?
Or whomst is going to drop 12,000 on just the long block for a Chevy LTX V8 in a Silverado. A 350ci Gen I longblock for my truck is like 1600, for reference. Or an LS7 was 17,000 for a CNC ported, titanium rodded, dry sump masterpiece.
Meanwhile Subaru had Practically Zero Emissions Vehicles on the road in like 1996.
Diminishing returns.
It's not efficient or environmentally friendly to make overly complicated cars that won't see 20 years of service. Aka building future junk.

It's the 1988 CRX HF and it got 45mpg, was simple and easy to maintain, fun to drive, and no lithium or cobalt mining, which is the same issue EVs have.
No one really wants EVs because guess what? You might only drive 6 miles a day. I used to have an hour plus commute each way, and covered a 3000 mile journey to my current abode. Range is desirable.
Smaller gas tank isn't going to do shit and your hybrids are worse for the environment than my 16mpg avg truck from the 90s that still runs fine.
Meanwhile I used to work at a lot where Leafs were being rebatteried and auctioned off. Acres of them. None had more than maybe 110k on the clock. It's wasteful, and as dumb a "solution" as reusable grocery bags.
Modern cars hit the junkyard FAR faster than their forebears did.

I was poking around, and if you have a major parts failure lol you can't get them for even popular EVs.
It's sad when cars from the 1950s are more rebuildable than something currently in production.
Also, think Elon is above bricking these things? He'll steal your Plaid or Ludicrous upgrade the instant their tech center is notified that the title/registration changed hands.
