Happy #Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it. It is nice to celebrate an event where the resident population fed starving undocumented migrants, and let them stay as they had nowhere to return to.
@cstross I have seen 8" floppies in use, when doing work practice at a bank back in school in the 1990s. All today's transactions were backed up to an 8" floppy which was mailed to headquarters for verification against the on-line records. But used, no.
#AEW#FullGear Well, that was disappointing. The PPV was doing so well until the main event, but then it all just falls together. (That, and that it is too crammed with matches and no breaks).
Wasn't able to stay up overnight to watch #AEW#FullGear, so catching up now. Unfortunately, I do not have 4 h to spare before having to go to bed tonight, so I will have to watch the rest tomorrow.
I have seen some spoilers scroll by, so will try to stay away.
@babiak You can use the #Interrail "Rail Planner" app even without an Interrail ticket. It's not always completely up-to-date, so always double-check the actual times, but it can be good for planning.
Otherwise, bahn.de from #DB is the best route finder, even if they cannot always sell tickets for all routes, their route planner is very good and well updated.
Once you have found the trains and who operates them, it is usually cheaper to buy the ticket from the specific operator, but if you're getting connecting trains, buying a ticket from one source can help you in case of delays.
Got this email yesterday. The positive thing is that I save the 12.49 USD that #WWENetwork cost each month, the negative is that "Many of WWE's top moments…" wording, I wonder much of what was on WWE Network will *not* make it to #Netflix in the transition?
I'm almost done in my 1997-2010 catch-up, so I've set #LetMeAtIt to download all the 2009 PPVs, maybe I should also try downloading Raws and SmackDowns?
@njvack@b0rk There's a minor difference in that in the first case, cmd's file 0 is file.txt, whereas in the second case it is a pipe that will get the contents of file.txt.
If the file is very large, you might notice a difference in memory usage for the pipe, but for most intents and purposes it shouldn't matter (but the < file.txt form is both less typing and more efficient).
@b0rk If you're covering bash, there are also some other interesting syntax to consider, such as "cat <<<string" and "<(command)", which is not a redirect at all (but incredibly useful, I tend to compare commits using "meld <(git show A) <(git show B)"). There is a corresponding ">(cmd)" syntax that I haven't quite understood myself yet.
And there is also the confusing case of "sudo ls > foo.txt" which is a bit confusing as to which user it is that writes to foo.txt (use "sudo tee" to write as super-user).
@literatesavant@nixCraft No, can't say I have. I have just used the default Git plugin, and can either tell it to build all branches (which then end up in a jumbled mess without any way to easily find a list of builds from a single branch) or set up one job for each branch to build. I ended up doing the latter.
@nixCraft We have been using #Jenkins at $DAYJOB for the last ten years. We didn't have any autobuilders set up when I started working here, and Jenkins was the easiest to set up.
It is painfully ignorant of branches in VCSes, which means I have to set up a new builder for every single branch I want to build from, but I've learned to live with it.
Haven't found a good alternative yet, though. Anything that cannot be installed on-premises is not an option.
@TauPan When I need to do something like that, and "git log --follow -p -C -C -M" doesn't work, I resort to "git gui blame" on the file, and look at where things are introduced, and then use the "show history context" to look at the change and "blame parent commit" to find the code as it was previous to continue searching backwards.
@klausman@nixCraft Yeah, it has mostly evolved for private use, and I want really planning on publishing it. Probably a lot that can be cleaned up, but it had served me well over the last decade or so. But improvements are always welcome
@nixCraft I find man pages easier to read when using the PostScript renderer than the text-mode renderer, the problem is that there are so many steps needed to get to the file you want.
