    Interesting analysis of the weird discrepancy between public sentiment and the public vote at #Eurovision last night. Dr Kevin Cunningham, a lecturer in politics at Dublin, talked (last year) about "diffuse alternatives" and the amplifying effect of the possibility of voting 20 times, when even a small percentage of the voters are voting entirely based on a single issue.

      @s1m0n4 The article was about last year's contest, which had similarly strong public votes for Israel.

      Peter Krefting repeated this.

      @smashtie ahhh, my mistake then!

      I have to admit I am quite baffled by the votes given to Israel. I suspect a group of rich supporters maxing out 20 votes per credit card and using different cards to achieve that.

      Why we would allow 20 votes per card is beyond my understanding. It used to be 5 votes a few years ago.

      @smashtie the winning song is Austrian, not Swiss.
      Honourable intention, but if the writer makes this sort of mistake the credibility of the whole text plummets.
