Resisting fascism requires accessing emotions most of us were taught to suppress as teenagers. You must react with nausea toward oppression. You must act with anger toward injustice. You can be loud, direct, brutal, ungovernable. If you must compromise or regroup, so be it, but do not give one more inch than you must.
@diedofheartbreak@zakatak@davidnjoku@mekkaokereke Prison labor is a big deal. I usually don't bring it up right away because, first, it takes more background to explain, and second, a lot of people will reject the notion outright because it conflicts with their worldview, until they've been educated.
@zakatak@davidnjoku@mekkaokereke Less than two hundred years since we fought a Civil War between "Yes, slavery. Lots of slavery!" and "Maybe a little bit of slavery, as a treat."
@fivetonsflax@mekkaokereke I will charitably suggest that a lot of Dems don't recognize voter suppression as a real problem. "What's the big deal?" they say, as they cheerfully register to vote at the same address they've had for eight years, then vote early, and wake up the next day without worrying if any of it made a difference.
@danirabbit Probably not that side. More likely someone close to the political center who harbors a few reactionary attitudes but wouldn't be a liability in a particular administrative role.
Even very intelligent people are emotionally motivated. It underlies all human behavior. Once you grasp that, it becomes easier to understand dysfunction in society.
My daughter is turning 18 before the election. I told her she should register to vote. She said, "Okay." Then she said, "But why? I don't want to vote." Then there was a pause, and she said, "Wait, no. I want to vote against Trump."
Breaking: WotC announces they had a slight weapons malfunction… but, uh, everything’s perfectly all right now. They’re fine… They’re all fine here now. Thank you. How are you?
