Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 26-Oct-2023 12:47:08 JST Stu @thomasfuchs I had a quick read of that thread and put in a few preemptive bad vibes blocks. I can't get my head around corporate hand waving.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 23-Oct-2023 03:55:21 JST Stu @thomasfuchs I remember my mate turning up to my house with a PC mag, shareware Doom on the attached floppy. Utterly blew me away. Was good playground ammo versus the console and Amiga owners.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 05-Oct-2023 03:37:40 JST Stu @inthehands I've enjoyed reading about all these little details. I had my media sound down but the ringer up, so I'm not sure what (if anything) governs the volume of the alert.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 25-Sep-2023 02:32:36 JST Stu @inthehands I've somehow managed to never encounter that photo before. Without reading the story or, charitably, trying to understand any nuance, it's difficult not to have a a very visceral reaction to the gesture which my grandfather escaped Poland to avoid.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 08-Sep-2023 01:16:30 JST Stu @inthehands I have a young relative who falls squarely into the "but we voted and it didn't fix it" camp, and unfortunately I don't see him often enough to dissuade the notion.
I suppose all this starts at home, and honestly I listen to my eldest for whom to vote for, she's way more attuned to issues I have blind spots for. I realize this is wildly different from what is likely the norm, though.
Appreciate your follow-ups, by the way. I pay close attention to your MN politics posts.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 08-Sep-2023 00:39:46 JST Stu @inthehands @gulovsen @lisamelton I hope the people I assume this was pitched at are fighting for the wheel. But I do wonder if a majority aren't.
Also apologies, realized I hadn't been removing folks from the conversation as we had this side discussion.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 08-Sep-2023 00:03:42 JST Stu @inthehands @gulovsen @lisamelton I interpreted it differently. I saw the line as the president *seemingly* not doing something, not "... and therefore don't vote for him!" I mean, it's not even pitched *at* young people, so whose vote would it be suppressing?
I'm very engaged in politics, I was naturalized 6 years ago, I caucus. I've no idea of the exact remit of the president. It feels like we "find out" on every major issue. Surely out of scope for an article about why young people are sad.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 07-Sep-2023 23:13:11 JST Stu @inthehands @gulovsen @lisamelton Do younger people know that? Do people in general know that? What the president can and can't do seems to depend on the weather, or someone's wilfull interpretation of a 200 year old draft document.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 24-Aug-2023 20:31:00 JST Stu @SpaceAce Wow, I had no idea. My first encounter with the admin was the conversation which ended with "so. Leave. Then." Eye opening.
For what it's worth, I've found Hachyderm to be welcoming to software projects and anyone directly or tangentially related, and I've enjoyed my time here after initially hopping around a couple of instances.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 28-Jul-2023 01:19:45 JST Stu @inthehands I was shouted down when I pointed this out to a community I had been a part of for decades. LLM fans just don't want to hear it.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 24-Jul-2023 23:44:13 JST Stu @thomasfuchs Sounds like another word people are desperate to overuse and thus dilute/change the meaning of. A tactic of a certain demographic.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 22-Jul-2023 11:16:17 JST Stu @thomasfuchs Yeah. I use Firefox out of principle and just stopped caring if sites don't support it.
I seem to have better luck than other folks though, almost all sites are fine. My bank's site failed to open on latest Arm64 Linux Firefox the other day, but that's generally the exception.
Carve up Google ASAP.

Stu (tehstu@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 21-Jul-2023 03:33:51 JST Stu @thomasfuchs might this be related to the open issue of Hachyderm having problems displaying images? I've seen other people post gifs elsewhere, so wondered if it was something local.
