We still have a lot to move and we’re all exhausted. Flynn, one of our kitties, decided he'd like to walk through the new house crying all night. I finally go up at 4AM hoping I could get him to calm down. It didn't work. He'd come sit with me, get bored, and go back to crying.

Our cell connection at the new place is terrible and often drops. I didn't expect that. Internet connectivity isn't going to be hooked up until September 12. 🤣

How can someone in one of the highest positions in our nation be so damned stupid.

Yes, they use water for cooling. They’re getting better at it. They also use a crap ton of electricity and drive rates up for folks in their area.

They need strict regulation. Of course this administration doesn’t care about any of that. 🤬 @bulwarkonline https://www.threads.com/@bulwarkonline/post/DcybaNVDHHZ

Wow, this is bad and is part of the reason app review is so busy.

Shame on them. App review should move some of their stuff down in the queue to speed up review of devs who have an app waiting in review limbo. @lapcatsoftware https://mastodon.social/@lapcatsoftware/117117139246358453

This website appears to be unironically tracking AI slop on the App Store. One developer has 83 total apps. Another 52 new apps in the past 90 days. And another who averages 17 apps released per month since their first. https://whatsaifor.com/developers/top#highest-velocity

@thomasfuchs I have no idea what humidity levels are like there but if they’re also high it makes for a very miserable existence.

100ºF in California’s dry climate feels much better than a high humidity 80ºF here in Charlottesville, Virginia.

I wonder if Apple will have a dip in sales after a little uptick?

    @WarnerCrocker Wild!

My wife ordered it for me and at 11PM last night she tells me she got the cancellation e-mail.

At least we got our money back and I was able to order directly from Apple. It's all good. 👍🏼

Since my MacBook Air order from Amazon -- filled by someone else -- was canceled I ordered from Apple.

Almost the same config. I bumped the RAM to 32GB. The only downside is it won't be here until early to mid-August.

But, I'll take it! I'm just happy to have a personal MacBook again.

Aging is a really weird thing. One day you wake up and something has changed. Be it your vision or a new ache or pain you can't explain and it doesn't go away.

But, you just keep moving forward as best you can, hoping you don't drop dead for some unknown reason. 🤣

I like to tell folks I can't die because I have too many people who depend on me. 😃

I'm not doing this so folks will pile on. This needs to be talked about. Black Twitter didn't work out here either. I believe a lot of folks moved to Bluesky and formed collectives there.

How do we fix discovery, reply guys, and welcoming all comers?

Anyway, I don't have an answer, thought maybe some smart folks might have some good ideas to share with Anil.

The biggest reason I don’t use Mastodon nearly as often as I’d like to is because, unlike other platforms, too many of the people who act like asses here are people who *follow me*. It’s really weird, because every platform has assholes or whatever, but usually it’s due to context collapse from strangers. Here, it’s usually a tiny minority that wants to scold or police over (often contrived!) objections, and it’s just… exhausting. Takes the fun out of hanging out online. Not sure how to fix it.

@lylo @anildash Yeah, perhaps it can't. Especially when you achieve a bit of notoriety. Once that happens I feel like folks start coming for you.

Heh, in the early days of blogging I was attacked more than I have ever been on Twitter or here, but I'm not famous. (Thank goodness.)

@WarnerCrocker Even with all the controversy surrounding WordPress they’ve been doing some great work lately.

I read somewhere they were working more closely with Ben Thompson on his Passport system for payments, but I can’t find it.

@WarnerCrocker I believe YouTube and Podcasts are more popular than traditional TV news and shows now.

All these traditional fogies need to get together with the younglings and form a new company that provides basic infrastructure that would give different up-and-coming orgs the means to do YouTube without YouTube.

An addition to the web, all open.

@WarnerCrocker I like the idea of something new, but making another YouTube channel with a Nazi loving Substack isn't the answer. 🤣

What would you like to see? I want the stories. I want investigative reporting. I want hard hitting truth.
