@lispi314@dalias If for some reason you can’t get the measles titre test, yes, just going ahead and getting the measles vaccine anyway is a good idea. No harm done and possibly some good done.
I just got my measles titre test results & my measles immunity is strong. Word of advice: if you were born between 1957-1969, you should automatically ask for a measles titre test the next time you have a physical. The immunity from the measles vaccine given during that time period has most likely waned. I had to get the updated MMR (Mumps-Measles-Rubella) shot in 2007 in order to matriculate in a grad program requiring proof of a mumps vaccine. Because of that, my measles immunity is now good.
Fyi: As of Sept. 7th, Bank of America is getting rid of its Bill Pay Service that many use to pay off their monthly BofA credit card bills. You should CANCEL any scheduled Bill Pay payments that are scheduled to be processed on or after Sept. 7th. There'll be a new "Pay & Transfer" feature to use to pay off credit card bills from external accounts.
Save Our Signs movement seeks to preserve all signs at national parks that the Trump administration wants to remove that may offend his sensibilities about how US history should only tell uplifting stories instead of telling the truth about all of our history. This movement is asking people to visit our natl parks and photograph any signs that our government might remove — related to slavery, indigenous people and women, for example. #nationalparks
Reading about the horrible conditions down at the Everglades, FL internment camp, I sense that it’s all just a matter of time before we see malnutrition & outbreaks of serious infectious diseases. This is all on this administration & the enabling Congressional Republicans. Blood will be on their hands & the world is watching. That my tax dollars are funding the abomination that is this humanitarian nightmare only adds to my consternation. #internmentcamp#everglades#humanitariancrisis
"Trump is planning to exert influence over some of the biggest coming events in the world, including the FIFA World Cup, which will take place across North America next year, and the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. ...But nothing has captured his imagination quite like the country’s 250th anniversary....Critics say the Trump administration and Trump’s allies ...are promoting a partisan vision soaked with MAGA ideology and have hijacked the anniversary for political purposes." -- WSJ 7/3/25
My family’s roots are in Tidewater Virginia, N. Carolina & Georgia/N. Florida. We never celebrated Juneteenth, as my ancestors knew about emancipation well before those who lived in places like Texas. Juneteenth as a celebration originated in Texas. I point this out only to emphasize that there is no universal African American story. Just look at variations in traditional regional Black cuisines—potatoes, pork & oysters in Virginia versus rice, crustaceans & okra in Louisiana. #Juneteenth
TFG announced he's renaming a whole list of army bases back to their original names lauding Confederates. The ruse they're using: claiming that the new names will be those of other American soldiers who just happen to have the same names as the Confederates. This is like leaving up Nazi names on military installations in Germany, but claiming those aren't names of Nazis, but are instead names of other non-Nazi German soldiers. Fort Rommel anyone? #armybases#army forts #confederates
Like Musk, RFK, Jr. will have blood on his hands when we all look back on this era in horror.
“ The health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., on Monday retired all 17 members of an advisory committee on immunization to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, arguing that the move would restore the public’s trust in vaccines…Without removing the current members, the…administration would not have been able to appoint a majority of new members until 2028...” — Apoorva Mandavalli, NYT 6/9/25
Sad news this morning involving a baby fawn. I spotted the torn hindquarters of a baby fawn (including two legs and spotted brown rear torso) on our long, wooded driveway this morning when I went out to get the weekend newspaper. We've been watching a mama doe with her baby these past 2 weeks & I pray it wasn't hers. I realize that fox run around here & that not all baby fawns make it to their 1st birthdays. But this hit me hard. Nature can be so cruel. My own photo from May. #fawn
