I have this sinking feeling that Judge Merchant will decide to postpone yet again Trump’s sentencing until after the election. I just don’t think he wants to be perceived as putting a thumb on the scale of this election. I won’t agree with this approach, if he goes down that road. But, I will understand if he does. If, God forbid, Trump wins, he’ll then be sentenced, and if he gets prison time it’ll be postponed until after the end of his term— if he gives up power in 2028, which is not certain.

I live in a tiny reddish corner of a blue state. My area is gradually turning purple due to demographic changes. So, I still run across sentiments like this one seen recently on a walk in my area. It's by no means typical. Most of us try to be neighborly; so I would never think of putting a bumper sticker on my car that reads "Republicans SUCK". Democrats generally don't do that sort of thing.#joy #welcoming #bigtent

@WarnerCrocker "What's to criticize?" I say, scratching my head. Enough with the doom and gloom. "Join us!" I say to all of the critics of the fun party. There's always been a strain of New England puritanism in Americans. I accept that. But, as Ecclesiastes 3:7-8 says, there's "a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace." Right now at the DNC is a time to sew, speak and love.
Wow! Harris filled both the RNC and DNC convention venues at the same time!
@wiseguyeddie @hasani But they were Nikki Haley voters primarily because they were never-Trumpers. They remain never-Trumpers. Hence, their support of Harris. Makes sense to me!
@wiseguyeddie I understand your point. But, I think the situation is more existential and transcends liberal-versus-conservative. We’ll have time to debate policy differences later on. Right now it’s more about whether we’re still going to be a democratic republic or not.
See what Alexander Hamilton wrote in the Federalist Papers. SCOTUS' majority opinion on presidential immunity has no basis in history. SCOTUS made s$%t up.
One of the flight attendants shown in this photo, which was posted today on "X" said: "As the other attendants arrived, we realized we would be an all African American crew. The first officer & lastly, the Captain. We all looked around at each other & took in the moment. Our entire crew is African American." This shouldn't be something to call out in this day and age; but it is still so incredibly rare.

Please consider donating to Doctors Without Borders or the International Rescue Committee, which try to help in situations of catastrophic famine, malnourishment and civil war like what’s currently happening in Sudan and is being underreported by the press. Babies are dying, families are being uprooted and infrastructure has been decimated in Khartoum. Yes, there is Gaza and Ukraine. But let’s not forget about Sudan in Africa. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/05/world/africa/sudan-khartoum-darfur-war.html?unlocked_article_code=1.yE0.YzhN.0tzfmhD14Vxt&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&sgrp=c-cb
All right now...😚
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Was assassinated on this date in 1968, 56 years ago. I was a young girl living in suburban Washington, DC & remember my mother driving in the city in the wake of the riots there. I saw National Reserve soldiers in the streets. It was frightening, and because I was aware of the Vietnam War, I remember asking her, “Is the war here now, Mommy?” When she answered “No”, trying to reassure me, what she was probably really thinking was, “Yes, but a different kind of war.”
@WarnerCrocker Will you share a photo later of the ritual of slaughtering the Lamb Cake?
Regarding the men missing from this morning's tragic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore (in my home state of Maryland), "The missing men are from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras & Mexico, and live in Dundalk & Highlandtown. They are in their 30s and 40s...w spouses & children.
All of them came to the city for a better life." --- Justin Fenton, investigative reporter for The Baltimore Banner. Dundalk & Highlandtown are working-class towns that have drawn immigrants for years.
I’m watching this Netflix documentary about women pilots who were sent to Albuquerque in 1961 and tested to see if they could match the test results of the first male astronauts. When the results came in, it turned out theirs were SUPERIOR to those of the male astronauts. Pres. Johnson and NASA were told about this, and their response, “We don’t need any women astronauts.” Makes me wonder how different our space program would be today if women had gone to space back then. #Mercury13
I’m reading this book, first published in 1955 by an American journalist of German Jewish descent, Milton Mayer. He interviews 10 ordinary Germans to understand how they became complicit in the mass hysteria of Nazism. I’m finding it to be prescient and chilling. Recommended reading for anyone interested in understanding what Hannah Arendt described as the “banality of evil”. Relevant to what’s happening now, unfortunately.
From a 1943 letter from my grandpa to his 6 year-old son, re WW2: "I wish I could be there with you. Hitler and the Germans want to make everyone in the world work for them and not be able to have homes and enjoy Xmas and free schools and think like you want to think so some one has to fight them so that they won’t be able to do this and I have to be in the army to help keep them from taking our house away from us and so we can go to shows, school, church and enjoy our family as we please."
