This is the reverse of a coin minted by Brutus, who plotted and killed Julius Caesar on March 15, 44 BC. These coins were minted for two years following Caesar's murder. The inscription reads "EID MAR", short for Eidibus Martiis meaning "On the Ides of March." Above the words are the Roman cap of freedom, flanked on either side by daggers like those used by the 66 senators to kill Caesar on the steps of the Senate.

Shout out to #mathstodon to say hello. I majored in math at #ReedCollege, decades ago now but I do try to keep up now and then. My undergrad thesis was on #KnotTheory (#algebraic #topology). My father was an applied mathematician in aerospace. These days I make a living as a software architect and it is the rare and joyous day when I get to use any bit of math.

Twenty-nine years ago on this day, I asked my loving wife to marry me. She said yes after she got over the initial shock.

What movie was this? Old campy sci fi movie, probably b/w, a group of scientists (?) traveling down through a planet (earth?) in a shaft and they pass a copy of themselves in another shaft going up. The second group is trying to wave them off, to go back, but to no avail.

A linguistics professor was lecturing on the role of the double negative, noting that in some languages like Russian a double negative remains negative, while in other languages like French a double negative becomes positive.
