Anti-SLAPP doesn't benefit the rich or businesses, it won't pass.

I'm just gonna end this rant by saying two things:
- Thank your local mod staff. Almost all are volunteers, and it's a very hard job with the tools on hand.
- Toss your server ops a coin every now and then. They spend more than you think making these spaces exist.

Eugen has, and I mean this to be as insulting as it sounds, been a horrible steward of the project. There are reasons so many forks have popped up, and we have this weird split of instances that are partially compatible. So many of those projects started as pieces that could have easily been pulled into the main code base, but his refusal to consider anyone's ideas but his own made these fractures a reality.

Y'all know Jack Dorsey isn't involved with BlueSky and hasn't been for a long time right? Like that's the one bit of weird misinformation people seem to be fixated on. He left when they refused to leave the platform unmoderated. Since then, they've implemented a bunch of moderation tools, frankly tools that are better than this platform has. I say that as someone who was a mod for a large instance.

Always a good time to remind folks, the Salvation Army has rules that explicitly forbid providing help to queer folk. They're a terrible, bigoted organization.

I'm saddened that a deeply unethically fought war in the Middle East is going to be what ushers in the complete trans genocide in the US. I know enough folks on the left that will take what's happening in Israel and use it as justification to not vote. They care more about that conflict than the people a national ban on trans care will kill. A million+ dead and/or disfigured and degraded trans people in the US over a foreign war we have no control over.

If you don't think a national transgender care ban will happen when the GOP has a super majority, you haven't been paying attention. The right ACTIVELY WANTS what's happening in Gaza right now, at least the religious right do, it's part of their prophecy for the second coming of Jesus. Not voting is ultimately worse for the Palestinian people than voting for democrats. Israel isn't going to listen to anyone.

Wendy's has gone all in on further fast food enshitification. They're implementing surge pricing for their food. Worst yet, this is going to mostly harm locations in places where other food options are limited (food deserts and the like).

The article has a factual mistake. Mastodon isn't trying to pick up the people leaving Twitter, it's just here and they show up. We don't advertise, we aren't in the trades talking up decentralized networks, we just exist and they find us.

@mlibby @zackstern The library is actually owned by a non-profit but it does receive public funds (the law applies to any library that receives public funds). This is the board covering their own ass at the expense of trans folks. The law in question is so poorly written and so broad in scope that it's impossible to determine if the speaker would be in violation of it.

The post is as it is, I don't intend to alter it. With a CW it would have been ignored like so many other posts saying the exact same thing. I don't intend to embrace self-censorship. Pretty sure the stonewall rioters wouldn't have put down their megaphones because someone might have been uncomfortable hearing what they had to say. As for not boosting it, I get it, if it will cause distress, it's your prerogative to not share it.

If you find what I've said disrespectful, you are more than welcome to mute or block me. I have no intention of changing what I've said or how I've said it. The end goal is the same, to force a specific group of people from public life, damage public support for them via state propaganda, and eventually to criminalize their existence. Also pre-Nazi Germany was the first places where GCS was attempted, his regime destroyed vital information regarding early trans medicine.

Yeah, the law is so ambiguously written that it could absolutely apply to any trans public speaker, because the ban includes all public property regardless of who the audience is. Again this is how it starts, by pretending that drag performers and trans people are the same thing, then using bans on the former to push the latter out of public life. Today is fear of reprisal over a speech given on public property, tomorrow it's simply existing in public spaces.

It doesn't actually matter that they might not have been fined, the fear was enough for them to cancel, enough for them to say the risk wasn't worth it. To say a trans person's thoughts and expertise arent important enough to fight for.

Montana's drag ban was applied to a transgender person doing public speaking. No music, no dance, just a trans person and a podium. This is what they want. They want us to be removed from public life. This is identical to what Hitler did with the Nuremberg Laws. Eventually the punishment for us simply existing in public spaces will be jail time. If that makes you uncomfortable, please speak up to whomever will listen. Fixing this requires cis support.

There is a multi-billion dollar machine that is doing nothing but churning out anti-trans sentiment. Normally when the rightwing lies about things, there are journalists on the left that actually try to combat it. This isn't happening right now and it's terrifying.
