@inthehands What's most disappointing here is the lack of seeing how this clashes with #Kagi 's supposed mission of "humanizing the web".

You can't do that while pretending ethics aren't part of it. Or by defending your business relationship with someone who denies basic human rights to some.

I think it'd be recoverable for Kagi if they end up revisiting the issue, but right now, I'm disappointed a.f.

@lanodan Yeah, that kinda sucked. :-/ Rather naive, and ... not really compatible with Kagi's mission of "humanizing the web", one thinks.

I'm (for now) undecided whether it's worse than what Google does, but it certainly makes me re-consider #Kagi and actively investigate alternatives.

@LorenzMeyer After his actual endorsement of the German fascist party, this is just par for the course.

At this point, supporting Elon truly is supporting an actual fascist and I don't know how to politely tell that anyone left on X or buying a Tesla.

The reason we don't live in a post-scarcity world (where shelter and food and medicine are free for all) is not that our technology isn't up to it yet.

It's our ethics and morals.

I really think #AI is hyped beyond any sense and is dangerous, but before we talk about it as an existential threat, have you looked at climate collapse and rising fascism

@jasongorman I hate to say it (because I very much dislike the LLM/AI hype), but ... they're surprisingly good at answering questions about code one shows them too. Not perfect, but they can provide inspiration and places to start looking.
(If one knows how to ask a question, obvs.)

@clacke @kdawson @DelilahTech That invalidates the massive effort and restraint some of us go to to make sure we've not caught it or passed it on to pretend "Oh but how WOULD YOU KNOW" to make laxer people feel better.

I realize there's an element of luck and chance, but yes, I'm 99% confident I've really never had it. I work *hard* at it and miss out on so much others take for granted. Don't erase that.

@webmink @msw @lightweight @osi They may not have redefined the legal meaning, but they've definitely managed to narrow the perception of "normal" Open Source: that's now Apache, maybe MIT.

Anything else (AGPL terrifies users even) is considered "zealots only, unusable if it can be at all avoided, don't use for new code".

Libertarians; freedom is only desirable if it can be lopsidedly exploited and doesn't commit *them* to anything.
