Switzerland mandates software source code disclosure for public sector: A legal milestone
The EMBAG law stipulates that all public bodies must disclose the source code of software developed by or for them, unless precluded by third-party rights or security concerns. This mandate aims to ensure greater transparency, security, and efficien ...continues
@Gargron beautiful camera. Yes I still have my grandfather's Asahi Pentax Spotmatic camera, with a zoom lens, flash, etc. Haven't used it for decades but it was all still working 100% when I last used 35mm film.
@youronlyone because the Fediverse still has an account hooked to a server and an admin can block that. You migrate, you lose your posts, and migration is not seamless across diff networks.
Nostr requires no account creation on any server, and the keypair you use works seemlessly across any clients or Nostr websites. Any post you make with Nostr relays through 8 or more (of over 2,000) relays. Even if one relay owner were to "block" your profile, it still flows out seamlessly through any other.
@youronlyone I get a similar question from my medical insurance - one question is what day is your debit order on. I have no clue as there are lots of different debits orders across a few days. How would I recall their one specifically...
@dansup data and code are two very different things. I don't think any open source project posts their user data with their source code. Data is normally stored on a server or end user device, and the source code merely powers the interface.
@dansup that's pretty unique, even in the Fediverse! Which gives your contacts outside of Loops the choice to follow this type of content from you or not.
@dansup I value the right of individuals to decide if they want to follow or block (instances). Having a choice is why we should be here. A walled garden decides everything for individuals, and leaves them no choices. Many of us wanted to get away from that.
@tokyo_0 which is why when Mike created Hubzilla, after he'd created Friendica, he'd made a complete break with a new protocol. I'm hoping that after studying ActivityPub, and having some years of experience, he can see a way of making this work to modify the existing ActivityPub (or extend it).
@pluralistic when will organisations learn that using open standards will future-proof their own websites and technology they use. It's a repetition all over again of the Internet Explorer era... Wish we'd learn from history.
Oh, Zot! Nomadic Identity is Coming to ActivityPub: This could change the Fediverse forever
Years before there was Mastodon and even ActivityPub, there was Mike Macgirvin who created the Zot protocol, which Hubzilla runs on. One of Hubzilla’s most amazing features (apart from also integrating with Activity and the Fediverse, and having cha ...continues
@youronlyone we're also doing well without it in #SouthAfrica - just irritating when I have to change my meeting time with someone in Australia twice a year, and it is always a chaotic change.
@youronlyone a lot depends on the actual age. A 20 year old with a 15 year old makes a bit of difference, but a 40 year old and a 35 year old is negligible.
@youronlyone as a non-Autistic (I think) I've always struggled with it. It just seems messy and complicated, although I realise it is powerful. I invariably use a tool like Google Bard or a website tester.
@dansup I've always been pro-choice for users to block or not, but like some others I think it would have been better to have had the default as-is (open) and then users choose to block.Blocking on behalf of everyone seems to veer more towards censorship (my opinion). But OK choice is at least there. I'm keen ton reconnect again with my wife who is not on any alternative social networks.
