Someone I told the story to suggested that the box was actually *from* the restaurant, and either the delivery guy misread that or the people sending him had put the wrong address in the box.

@cavyherd Nah, not that restaurant. The proprietor is a jerk who buys up every bit of nearby real estate and tries to turn public space into his private space, turns the music up the moment our lights go out so we often keep the downstairs lights on when we go to bed, also set his dog* on me once for laughs (and still laughs at me every time he and I meet in the street while he's walking said dog).

* the dog is cavy-sized, I could crush it under my heel, but a vicious growler while on a leash

@cavyherd I don't think the guy misread the address, I think he honestly thought it was [next street] because the situation is a bit confusing. But he might at least have read the nameplate on the door. And believed me when I said it wasn't for us.

Doorbell rings at 9pm on Saturday night. We're not expecting anyone but I open anyway in case it's someone confused about there not being Saturday night church services in summer.

It's a man with a huge black meal box.

Me: That's not for us.

Man: Yes it is!

Me: What's the address?

Man: There's no need to get angry!

Me: WHAT.IS.THE.ADDRESS?

Man: Hey, calm down!

Me: What is the ADDRESS on the BOX?

Finally, he reads. Next Street, same number.

Man: No, it isn't.

Me: *sigh*

Man: Okay, then you don't get to eat!

Me: *slam door in man's face*

Back upstairs, still shaking, I realise that the address on the box is a bleeping RESTAURANT. Why would they order meal boxes? It was one of those cook-your-own things.

(also, wouldn't I know my own address?)

@cavyherd I once went to [street called almost the same as ours, same number] to exchange their package which had been delivered to us for our package which had been delivered to them. But we haven't had a wrong food delivery for ages. It used to happen every weekend, so I made a note "This is [right address]. [Wrong address 1] is about 100 meters to your right, [wrong address 2] is right behind you." Never hung it up because then (almost) everybody got wise.

@randahl Argh that would make me boycott them but Eccos are the only shoes that actually fit me.

@auscandoc @randahl Yes, that's what I do too. There used to be an Ecco store in town where I went whenever they had a "two for one" sale and get 2 pairs of the same.

First Google Translate wants me to sign in elaborately, 2FA and all, to translate a single sentence. Then when I nope out, and try again a minute later because I do want to translate a sentence, it lets me in just like that. WTF? (Also I turned 2FA OFF because I was fed up with the constant nagging to get at my own stuff in my own house with no security risk whatsoever, but G pushes it on me ANYWAY. WTFF?)
