One of the best things about my town is that you can take a cable car up a hill and experience winter wonderland for an afternoon, all the while there is zero snow down in the valley where I live.

@adastra1930 Years ago, I lost a bunch of data when installing SuSE Linux. At some point, a dialog with red background comes up "Do you want to erase the entire hard drive?" There are Yes and No buttons - one blue, one grey. Quick, which one is the selected one? I guessed wrong.

@skinnylatte @meganL In my country (Switzerland), the canonical crisp flavor is paprika, kind of salty-sweet. I like it.

@lanodan Let me introduce you to the way audio output works on the Raspberry Pi 3. Hint: if you configure a GPIO pin as using hardware PWM, the headphone output stops working.

@ttpphd @alice I read something the other day that I had never considered consciously: Diet Coke appeals mostly to women, so Coca-Cola came up with Coke Zero, which is more male-coded.

I had thought having a Fedora system means that random installers just work (they never do on BSD) but it turns out they not only assume Linux but also amd64. After all, why check for CPU architecture before downloading a gigabyte of AppImage? No one uses aarch64, right?

I just ran #govulncheck on all of #pkgsrc, and there are a lot more vulnerable packages than I thought :(

There are generally two types of folks in #tech:
- the ones who always have the newest phone, drive a Tesla, connect every appliance in their home, etc.
- the ones who wear a straw hat, work in their garden, generally spend a lot of time in nature and almost live a hippie life

Why do you think that is?

Things that should not be acceptable in UIs, a partial list:

1. The error message "Oops, an error occurred. Please try again later."

2. Yes/No questions, where the answers are "yes" and "maybe later".

Instead of doing what I was supposed to be doing, I installed @netbsd on this 2012 MacBook Pro. Works okay!

(Wi-Fi doesn't work, track pad gestures do not work, but most stuff is fine!)
