Siddu is Himachali steamed bread, stuffed with spiced walnuts. Served with pomegranate chutney and melted ghee. I am hectoring the staff to learn/steal the recipe, I have pomegranates ripening at home.
It appears that the only thing on the telly tonight is two octogenarians mud wrestling, so I guess that's what I'm going to watch. They really ought to get some younger contestants for these shows.
Then, something clicked. I called the purser over and told him I had been in the same plane coming in. He was doubtful (what are the chances!) but went and checked. When he came back I asked him “Have you tried turning it off and on again?”
Sure enough, we hit cruising altitude and it was working fine. I told the purser I’d send him my bill.
As I was getting off the plane in Dubai, the ground crew remarked this was the same plane that would take me to San Francisco. Interesting bit of trivia I thought.
When I boarded the SFO flight, the pilot came on the intercom to say there was going to be no WiFi on this flight as it was broken. 15.5 hours with no WiFi. Ouch.
The fact that I "fixed" the wifi on our airplane was much appreciated by the flight attendants who were being bombarded by anxious business travelers. Knowing that it was "now working" (appears the pilot got an incorrect report from the ground staff, the reboot worked). This meant they could all spread the good news.
I was given 3 boxes of chocolates by the grateful crew on my way off, thanking me for my help. Which to be clear, consisted of me saying "have you tried turning it off and on."

Yup. My brother is in England and he gets the page just fine (and he doesn't pay $252.90 per year like I do!). Yes, I know about VPNs. That's not the point.
I'm guessing that if I was trying to log in from Europe or Australia it would be fine, but that all of Africa is also blocked. Because, you know, security.
Despite the fact that I pay hundreds of dollars per year to subscribe to the Press Democrat, their "security" service blocks any and all access coming from India. Because, of course, all India and Indians are a security threat to this newspaper in their minds.
