@hakan_geijer lol fair but he could be resting at an anchor where it's cold and primarily belaying on some multi-pitch where the gloves / jacket are more prudent and not something he'd wear on lead.
But I concede your point :)
In any case our comrade from Minneapolis was one who shared our passion for scaling beautiful vertical spaces
@hakan_geijer yeah I wish ansible was faster but it's great for this scenario. @foolishowl
and you can use "ansible vault" to encrypt a lot of the stuff you obv don't want in plaintext in git. So when you provision it uses the vault key to decrypt on the fly and you can commit the encrypted version in git. Definitely a useful way to handle sensitive config file info (I put even ssh pubkeys in this category). Makes stuff like firewall setup, web server config, user management, ssh hardening / config, etc nicely abstracted and readily reproducible.
The other configuration management tools (chef, puppet, etc) have major drawbacks and a lot more complexity, so +1 to learning ansible for this
@MakBerberovic weird, nowhere in this convoluted electoral strategizing do I see a justification for funding genocide.
When you say "everyone would eat it up", are you referring to the people shrieking that the earth is flat and "Jews did 9/11"? Or is it liberals railing against students protesters for not being more polite about confronting war crimes?
You can use this cudgel ad infinitum (and they have), so yeah, your premise is weak and AOC and Bernie can go fuck themselves
Lol it's amazing how much fuckshit the New York Times manages to spread around. They have this tech podcast called "Hard Fork" and one might think, ehn it's a tech podcast, how much could they really jack in some shenanigans? Oh sweet summer child...
Just listened to this segment with a Bluesky developer where they talk all about decentralization but do not mention Mastodon, Pixelfed, Pleroma, or christ even the ActivityPub protocol they are leveraging. Made it out like the concept of federation was the groundbreaking brainchild of Jack Dorsey and some ex-Twitter employees.
The audacity of claiming that mantle, not mentioning other projects you pretend to interoperate with, and then only gives nods of legitimacy to the billionair tech bro who somehow confers sufficient institutional inertia... in a conversation about decentralization... wtaf? Embarrassing levels of bullshit
@inthehands this is a really ignorant take that ignores historical context and what these groups are literally saying.
Israelis in positions of power are committing genocide and unabashedly saying so (one of countless examples: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/israeli-official-gaza-flattened-auschwitz_n_658092fee4b036ecab461ec1)
Hamas lacks the capacity and has stated very different goals
This is not remotely a defense of certain Hamas members killing civilians or taking civilians hostages. But their intention for the latter was to free Palestinians prisoners (not to eradicate a religious / ethnic group).
You are completely flattening context and the number of desperate Palestinians who join Hamas because it is the most well-established resistance faction. There is not uniformity in values there (unlike Netanyahu's regime which is ruthlessly unified in wiping out Palestinians and expanding Israeli displacement of the indigenous people).
You don't have to agree with Hamas leadership to avoid making baseless comparisons that misrepresent reality.
Cordially inviting liberal abortion advocates onto the police abolitionist train. I promise y'all it's dope in here.
Good music, drinks, plenty of NO Bonzo art. Definitely no fuckin cops. There are some pigs (but just like truffle pigs the ALF scooped up)

This is even better than the Rolling Stone piece. Fiercely well-written and a very clear summary of Kissinger's worst atrocities:
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/henry-kissinger-dies_n_6376933ae4b0afce046cb44f
[Kissinger personally “approved each of the 3,875 Cambodia bombing raids” that occurred between 1969 and 1970
...
The bombing campaign ultimately killed between 150,000 and a half-million Cambodian civilians, various estimates suggest. It also helped unleash a civil war inside Cambodia that led to the rise of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot, a dictator whose regime killed as many as 2 million Cambodians, according to modern appraisals.]
Imagine the amount of sheer time spent... signing document after document to rain pure terror upon the Cambodian people. Can we please ressurect him so we can each take turns beating him to death?
@hakan_geijer I've always squirmed at the phrase and obviously understand the meaning (esp in the context of a diversity of action in antifascist spaces), but the compulsive language nerd in me was always like "well not ANY means". This is not out of a lack of militancy but rather an embrace of nuance
Maybe something By Any Appropriate Means Necessary (BAAMN 😂 )
I had heard bits and pieces around the ADL's fuckery with respect to any criticisms of Israel (particularly under the leadership of Jonathan Greenblatt), but this podcast ep is an amazing deep dive into the subject:
https://www.dissentmagazine.org/blog/know-your-enemy-elon-musk-adl/
It features a few guests from Jewish Currents which is the publication that put out this piece (over a month ago now):

Do not ever be gaslit by the people weaponizing the label of antisemitism. Especially as Israeli fascists and far-right Jews in the US will gladly ally with open white supremacists if it serves their agenda. It is not only possible, but completely necessary, to fiercely oppose both antisemitism and the genocidal Zionist project. To equate Zionism or the settler colonial state of Israel with Jewishness is absurdly antisemitic and figures from Greenblatt to Netanyahu are doing it constantly. Fuck that noise
10s of thousands at a pro-Israel march in DC chanting "no ceasefire" and holding signs reading "Let Israel Finish the Job"...
Holy shit. It is so disturbing how morally bankrupt people can be. A truly harrowing display.
Even from a coldly strategic perspective, it so catastrophically fucking stupid to think Israel's heinous war crimes are going to make anyone safer.
"The US carried out airstrikes targeting two facilities linked to Iranian-backed militias in eastern Syria on Thursday, according to a statement from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin"
https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/26/politics/us-strikes-facilities-syria/index.html
Jesus fucking christ. Claiming self-defense with no evidence or that this definitely isn't related to Iranian ties to militias in opposition to the IDF... this is not remotely credible. How are targeted air strikes on facilities in a foreign country self-defense?
Even under the AUMF, what fucking authorization is there for the Biden administration to do this unilaterally?
I fucking hate it here. Regardless of what the US claims, this is only going to provoke wider regional involvement in a war that is already devastating Palestinians.
[A senior defense official called Iran “the center of gravity” for the attacks on US forces in the region, saying that “Iranian fingerprints are all over this.”]
This is basically equivalent to Bush administration hand waving about WMDs in Iraq. Some "we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud" level bullshit.
Holy fucking shit
I have seen cops get soooo bothered when they're at starbucks or some shit and they receive a simple "fuck you, quit your job".
The stigma and vociferous rejection of cops in our society has done more to impact staffing than any city council vote ever has. "Defund the police" is a line I no longer have any interest in. It's like begging the state to defund itself. Will never happen (especially on any significant scale).
Cops need to hate their jobs; to do that we need to bring the fight to isolated individuals when they are not in uniform.
Antifascist action is effective because it presents real consequences for fascists. When a nazi gets doxxed, gets fired, get flooded with flyers in their neighborhood, etc... when their lives are fundamentally changed for the worse, it disrupts their ability to organize. It is demoralizing. We make no apologies and do not function within a framework controlled by the state or its apologists.
We should be imposing similar consequences for cops. On our own terms. As abolitionists. You think they give a fuck about a march in isolation? Or some appeal to city council? After 2020, their funding in most locales has only increased. The lack of any substantive structural changes should inspire introspection about our strategy and tactics.
We need to make it unbearable to be a cop. The individual stripped of riot gear and their police line is weak. Attacking individual links makes the chain fall apart.
Reading The Hundred Years' War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi and in the introduction he cites a letter written by Theodor Herzl (considered the founder of the modern Zionist movement) to one of Khalidi's ancestors:
[Glossing over the fact that Zionism was ultimately meant to lead to Jewish domination of Palestine, Herzl employed a justification that has been a touchstone for colonialists at all times and in all places and that would become a staple argument of the Zionist movement: Jewish immigration would benefit the indigenous people of Palestine... "In allowing immigration to a number of Jews bringing their intelligence, their financial acumen and their means of enterprise to the country, no one can doubt that the well-being of the entire country would be the happy result."]
Beyond colonialism, this reasoning was also applied as a rationalization for chattel slavery. John C. Calhoun (the 7th US vice president) said: "Never before has the black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually."
My meaning here is in no way to speak negatively of immigration (I am a fierce advocate for the rights of migrants and asylum seekers); and of course Jews fleeing Russian pogroms or immigrating due to the horrors of the holocaust is infinitely understandable.
But when Herzl speaks of "immigration" in this 1899 letter, he of course means the deliberate project of displacing Palestinians to establish a Jewish state.
I assume this distinction is obvious but it is well worth stating directly. It is precisely this distinction that renders a two-state "solution" untenable according to Khalidi. The ethnic cleansing and domination cannot be undone. Israel is not a neighbor; it is an oppressor.
Migration: moving to a new place and establishing a home
Settler colonialism: moving to a new place and taking someone else's home
