@gnu2 no argument there. I think some of your ideas of who benefit from walking, biking and transit improvements and who works are misplaced.

@gnu2 Hippie?!? I’m no scholar of American history in the mid-20th century, but I don't remember a call to supplant gas taxes with a road usage charge being part of the youth counterculture movement at that time. Though to be fair, I wasn't born yet so maybe I missed it.

Once upon a time, Google claimed to want to stop SEO scams b/c their engineers realized that flooding search results with paid-for garbage (now mostly AI slop) would be bad for their users and the web as a whole. But then they realized that they had no real competition in search, & so long as people kept buying AdSense & AdWords ads they would make bike loads of money. So they let SEO parasites ruin search for everyone. (PS, a “bike load” is a lot. Ask your neighborhood cargo bike enthusiast)

I get emails every day from SEO scammers, & I report them all as spam. But this one jumped out at me because it spells out the scam so clearly. They would like to give me money to publish a story they write with links to their clients' sites, but they want to make sure it is not marked as an ad.

@ai6yr I've been tying to serve as a lifeboat captain to help folks and the bike community move together so that we don't lose those connections. It's been diminishing returns on that effort for months as pretty much everyone has either left or has accounts in multiple places. I decided I don't need to do it anymore.
